CARTHAGE, Tx - She loved running from the start. And with the love of track and field, came success, which made it that much more enjoyable. Former Carthage Lady Dawg C.K. Williams will have the opportunity continue running after signing a letter of intent to run track and attend Wiley College in Marshall next fall.

Carthage junior Jared Twomey may have barely earned a pair of berths to the University Interscholastic League Track & Field this past Saturday, but he made the best of both opportunities. Twomey earned a silver medal in the 110-meter high hurdles and was part of the Bulldog 4x400-meter relay that also captured a silver on Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.

CARTHAGE, Tx - Carthage female athletes Kamry Smith and Keewannee Day will be making their first trip to Austin on Saturday to compete in the University Interscholastic League premier track and field event. And although they have similar 'roads' to the State Track Meet, they have different perspectives on the event.

CARTHAGE, Tx - The Carthage Lady Bulldogs opened up a lead after the field events, and then turned on the afterburners on Thursday to literally run away with the Girls Division of the District 16-3A Track & Field Meet held here at Bulldog Stadium.

The Carthage Lady Bulldog track team easily outdistanced the field at the Henderson Lions Relays on Friday, scoring 78 more points than its nearest competitor, while securing six first-place medals, to go along with 10 for second-place finishes.

The Lady Dawgs will be in Lindale Thursday for the Lindale Eagle Relays and then host the District 16-3A Track & Field Meet on Wednesday and Thursday, April 11-12.

The Carthage Lady Bulldog track squad captured top honors in the 1600-meter relay last week as they placed third overall at the Van Vandal Relays. The CHS junior varsity girls placed third as well.

In the varsity division, Kaufman took top team honors with 183 points, followed by Lindale with 125 and Carthage third with 116 points. Gilmer placed a distant fourth with 59 points, Van and Bullard tied for fifth with 35 points and Grace Community posted 33 points for seventh.

Two Shelby County schools will be part of the 8-team field on hand Friday afternoon as Center High School hosts the annual Roughrider Relays.

The field events will get underway at 3:30 p.m. at Roughrider Stadium, with the 3200-meter race starting approximately 15 minutes after that, according to Center head track coach Matt Gregory. The running events will begin immediately following the completion of the field events.

The Carthage Lady Bulldogs track team claimed eight first-place finishes, including the 1600 and 400-meter relays, as they sprinted to the championship of the Elysian Fields Relays last week. CHS claimed top honors with 232 points.

The Lady Dawg 1600-meter relay foursome of C.K. Williams, Marisah Ingram, Keyaria Lewis and Chasity Traylor claimed first place, while the CHS 400-meter relay team of Kristyn Brooks, Brittany Hall, Lewis and Williams topped the field in its race.

Two young members of the Carthage Lady Bulldog track squad were honored recently when freshman Iesha Bryant and sophomore Tiera Simpson were recently named as the Co-High Point Track and Field athletes for the 2011 season.

Lady Dawg seniors Jasmine Robinson and Kabresha Pipkin were recognized by head coach Art Horton as both athletes were four-year regional finalists in the sport.
