Carthage junior Jared Twomey may have barely earned a pair of berths to the University Interscholastic League Track & Field this past Saturday, but he made the best of both opportunities. Twomey earned a silver medal in the 110-meter high hurdles and was part of the Bulldog 4x400-meter relay that also captured a silver on Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.

CARTHAGE, Tx - Despite qualifying for the Universal Interscholastic League State Track and Field Meet with the ninth-place wild card draw, four members of the Carthage Bulldog track team are hopeful that they will bring home a medal when they compete Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.

Senior Edward Pope, junior Jared Twomey and sophomores Tee Goree and Tevin Pipkin will compete in the 1,600-meter relay, while Twomey will have double duty, running in the 110-meter high hurdles as well.

CARTHAGE, Tx - Four members of the Carthage boys track team and two Lady Dawgs will be in Austin Saturday, facing off against the elite in Class 3A as they battle to earn coveted gold medals at the UIL State Track and Field Meet set at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

CARTHAGE, Tx - They couldn't quite overcome the speed of Gilmer, but the Carthage Bulldogs varsity boys track team, led by senior Edward Pope and Jared Twomey, captured seven first-place finishes Thursday night here at Bulldog Stadium to secure second place at the District 16-3A Track & Field Meet.

The top three finishers in each event will be advance to the Class 3A Region II meet held on April 27-28 at Memorial Stadium at Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Two Shelby County schools will be part of the 8-team field on hand Friday afternoon as Center High School hosts the annual Roughrider Relays.

The field events will get underway at 3:30 p.m. at Roughrider Stadium, with the 3200-meter race starting approximately 15 minutes after that, according to Center head track coach Matt Gregory. The running events will begin immediately following the completion of the field events.

Ten area athletes will be in Austin this weekend to represent four schools at the University Interscholastic League (UIL) State Track & Field Championships, which will be run at Mike A. Myers Stadium, located on the University of Texas campus.

The competition will take place on Friday and Saturday. Four of the athletes will represent Garrison High School, while four are from Timpson and one each from Tenaha and Shelbyville. All will compete in the Class 1A level of competition.
