After playing No.21-ranked North Forney to a 2-0 setback in Game 1 of their best-of-three series on Friday night, Carthage head softball coaches Matt and Jessica Folmar gave their Lady Dawgs a spirited pep talk about turning up the tempo on Saturday in Game 2.

But the Lady Falcons never let Carthage get on track on Saturday as they limited the Lady Dawgs to just one hit in an 8-1 win to sweep the Class 3A Region II Area playoff series 2-0.

BULLARD, Tx - The Carthage Lady Bulldogs needed a flawless defense effort in Game 1 of their best-of-three Class 3A Region II Area series against No.21 North Forney. They came up short of that effort, falling 2-0 at Lady Panther Field.

North Forney senior hurler Shelby Hedrick controlled the Lady Dawgs for most of the night, allowing just one hit, while fanning eight and walking only one. She was the key to the victory, according to Carthage head coach Matt Folmar.

MARSHALL, Tx - Carthage head softball coach Matt Folmar and his team talk have used the phrase 'moving forward' throughout the 2012 season. The Lady Bulldog team that never looks back after a slow start, will continue to move forward in the Class 3A state playoffs after they fought off complacency in Game 2 of their best-of-three series with Pleasant Grove and surged ahead for a 2-1 win at East Texas Baptist University's Taylor Field Saturday afternoon.

MARSHALL, Tx - The Carthage Lady Bulldogs looked far from a team fielding only one senior Friday night as freshman pitcher Samantha Clakley threw a two-hitter as CHS took advantage of Pleasant Grove mistakes for a 7-0 win here at Taylor Field on the East Texas Baptist University campus.

Game 2 of the best-of-three series will be played back here on Saturday at 1 p.m. A third game, if necessary, will follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 2.

CARTHAGE, Tx - Looking to fill a hole with the absence of starting third baseman Brittany Addington, who came down with a case of strep throat, Carthage softball coach Matt Folmar needed someone who would 'answer the bell' in a hurry with his team trying to sew up second place in the District 16-3A race.
