It's late at night and I'm sitting here at my computer in my office like I have so many times over the past three years. I'm burning the 'midnight oil' once again. It's the end of an era of sorts, but one which I look back on and smile when I think of all the great memories and friendships I've built.

TENAHA, Tx - Former Carthage Bulldog basketball and football standout Marcus Bowman has always wondered what it would be like to be a coach on the sideline giving instruction instead of the athlete receiving it. The Panola College student who is studying to become a coach is getting an opportunity to get a glimpse of what's ahead as he works this summer as the coach of the CHS Lady Bulldog basketball team.

CARTHAGE, Tx - Setting her eye on the prize of eventually playing at a four-year institution, former Carthage Lady Dragon two-sport athlete Emily McLin has chosen McLennan Community College to further her academic and basketball careers.

McLin looked at East Texas Baptist University and McLennan before making the choice on the two-year school in Waco. McLennan, which is part of NJCAA Region 5, posted an overall record of 12-18 this past season and tied for fourth in the NTJCAC with a 7-7 mark.

Carthage Independent School District voters went to the polls last weekend and approved all three propositions for the district, which was good news for the Bulldog football teams and other athletic programs as well.

Carthage's Jared Twomey qualified for State Track & Field Meet in two events Saturday as he led four Bulldogs and two Lady Dawgs who advanced past the Class 3A Region II Track & Field Meet held at Texas A&M-Commerce.

Twomey will battle in Austin on Saturday, May 12, in the 110-meter high hurdles and as part of the Carthage 4x400-meter relay team. He will be joined by Tee Goree, Ed Pope and Tevin Pipkin in the mile relay.

Carthage senior forward Emilee McLin led four Carthage Lady Bulldogs named to the All-District 16-3A Girls Basketball selections as she was honored by the coaches of the league recently by being named the Co-Offensive Player of the Year.

TEXARKANA, Tx - For three out of the four quarters in Tuesday night’s bi-district playoff game between Carthage and the Paris North Lamar Pantherettes, the Lady Bulldogs’ solid inside defense did its job.

But North Lamar took advantage of Carthage turnovers to open the third quarter with eight unanswered points and would not trail again en route to a 43-35 win here at Texarkana’s Texas High.

HENDERSON, Tx -- Carthage opened the game on a 14-2 run and added a 16-2 surge in the second half and ran away with a 41-30 victory over Henderson in the regular-season finale for both teams in Lion Gymnasium.

Carthage, which won for the six time in its last seven games, improved to 19-12 on the season heads into the postseason as the District 16-3A No.2 seed and will begin the playoffs Tuesday at Texas High against North Lamar in bi-district action. The game is set for 6:30 p.m.

CARTHAGE, Tx -- The Carthage Lady Bulldogs are headed back to the Class 3A state basketball playoffs. The Lady Dawgs used a stingy defensive effort in the first half Friday night to blow out to a 26-6 halftime lead and then coasted past the Gilmer Lady Buckeyes, 43-26.

CARTHAGE, Tx -- With their shots not falling, the Carthage Lady Bulldogs relied on their defense Friday night to force 37 turnovers and hold Spring Hill to just 28 points in a 35-28 victory as the Lady Dawgs took over sole possession of second place in the District 16-3A standings.
