JayDon Day isn't satisfied with his 11-2 pitching record in 2012. He wants to get better for his senior run in 2013.

Day took advantage of the opportunity to play for the Texas All-Stars as they played six days of baseball against the best seniors-to-be from all across the country in the 16th Annual 'Junior' Sunbelt Classic baseball tournament.

The list of all-stars and all-state players from Panola County and the area continues to grow as Carthage's Samantha Clakley and Beckville's Montana Searcy and Shelbi Jo Dodson were named to their respective all-state softball lists.

Carthage baseball player Clint Cage also received another honor as he will join Spring Hill's Talyn Cellucci and play in the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association Class 1A-2A-3A All-Star Game set for 12-noon Saturday at Round Rock's Dell Diamond.

When he received the invitation to participate against some of the best 10th grade baseball players in the nation in the 16th Annual Sophomore Sunbelt Classic earlier this month in Oklahoma City, Carthage's Kolby Blissett was both honored and excited.

A Texas team, made up of some of the most talented sophomores and juniors-to-be, met in Fort Worth on June 1 and then rode a charter bus to Oklahoma City, where they exited the bus and immediately began competition in the tournament, facing Colorado.

CARTHAGE, Tx - With a career that began when he five years old, Carthage's Jacob Blissett made baseball his life as he played year around since the first day he stepped on the diamond. With those years of work came aspirations of playing college baseball. Those dreams became a reality recently when he signed a national letter-of-intent to play with Panola College.

Carthage's Austin Williford has always had a dream of playing college baseball. Since moving to Texas from Arkansas when he was five-years old, he began close friendships with players he competed with up through the 2012 high school season.

That dedication has paid off this spring when he signed a national letter-of-intent to play baseball last week at the University of Arkansas at Monticello.

Carthage head baseball coach Jim Goldman has announced that this year's Bulldog Baseball Camp is coming in June.

The three-day camp will take place on Wednesday through Friday, June 20-22, from 9 a.m. until 12-noon at Jim Reeves Memorial Field at the Carthage City Complex on the loop.

The camp will be for ages seven to incoming high school freshman and the cost will be $60 for each individual attending.

Carthage seniors Clint Cage and Jacob Blissett had strong senior campaigns in 2012 and they were rewarded with their play by leading the All-District 16-3A baseball selections, which were voted on by the coaches.

Cage, who led the league with eight home runs, was named to the Offensive Most Valuable Player Award, while Blissett anchored the CHS defense at shortstop and was selected as the league's Defensive Most Valuable Player.

Athletes interested in becoming a part of the Panola College baseball team will have a chance next month to earn a spot on the NJCAA squad.

Ponies' head coach Todd Shelton has announced that the college will be holding an open tryout on Tuesday, June 12, at 11 a.m. at Jim Reeves Memorial Field at the Carthage City Sports Complex on the loop.
