Panola College head baseball coach Todd Shelton will be hosting a baseball camp for youths ages 5-12 early next month.

Shelton said the camp will take place on June 4-6 from 9 a.m. until 12-noon at the Jim Reeves Memorial Field at the Carthage Baseball Complex. The cost of the three-day camp is $75 per individual.

Coaches will concentrate on introduction on basic skills and improvement and development of skills as well.

Area baseball players who want the opportunity to try out for a major league baseball team can try out for the Tampa Bay Rays in Hallsville next month.

Rays management is hosting the open camp on Tuesday, June 12, at Hallsville High School in the attempt to find local talent that could be an asset to the organization. The camp will be supervised by Rays scout Pat Murphy and under the direction of scout Scott Mitchell.

LONGVIEW, Tx - In a game which the No.6 Carthage Bulldogs couldn't seem to get their offense rolling, the Dawgs turned up the defensive intensity with a double-play to end the top of the seventh. Then Austin Williford slammed hit a record-setting walk-off triple to the gap in right-center to drive in Jacob Blissett to end the season for Atlanta, 1-0, Saturday at Lobo Field.

LONGVIEW, Tx - Carthage has lost only four games the entire baseball season, but half of those losses came in a five-day span during the past week. So Friday’s 5-1 victory behind JayDon Day’s complete-game five-hitter was a welcome sight for the Bulldogs as they took a 1-0 lead on Atlanta in a Class 3A Region II Bi-district series at Lobo Field.

KILGORE, Tx - Sitting on top of the world with a 14-game winning streak and a No. 2 state ranking less than a week ago, the Carthage Bulldogs now find themselves having to get over a pair of heartbreaking defeats to Spring Hill in a hurry as the District 16-3A co-champions dropped a district playoff game Monday night at Driller Park to the Panthers, 7-6, in nine innings.

LONGVIEW, Tx - With a share of the District 16-3A championship at stake, Thursday night's regularly scheduled District 16-3A finale between No.2-ranked Carthage and Spring Hill lived up to the billing. With the two teams' starting pitchers coming into the game with a combined 19-0, Talyn Cellucci outdueled Carthage's JayDon Day as the Panthers secured a share of the title with the Dawgs, taking a 2-0 decision here at Panther Field.
