Coaches at the Class 1A level often find themselves recruiting athletes in their own school's hallways because they want to get the best athletes on the floor. Beckville girls' basketball coach Britney Redfearn did that a year ago and found some great role players.

Redfearn was also pleased this summer when some of her players took the initiative to participate in a 'playday' at Gary's Bobcat Gymnasium, taking on Overton as well as the Lady Bobcats.

Tough competition at the Class 1A Region III Track and Field Meet in Palestine on Friday and Saturday prevented any Beckville athletes from qualifying for the state meet next month.

Several BHS athletes finished in the top eight in the competition, led by the Ladycat 4x100 relay team and Cheyenne Haynes in the 100-meters and the triple jump.

The Beckville Ladycats tried to use their physical defensive play against District 23-1A champion Lovelady Lady Lions, but the athletic opponent put BHS to the test early and often as they rolled out to a 14-4 lead in the first quarter and then held off a late challenge for a 45-37 victory here in Ford King Jr. Gymnasium.

BECKVILLE, Tx -- T'Ouja Adams scored seven points in the opening period Tuesday night and led the Beckville Ladycats to a 14-0 lead over Garrison at the end of the quarter as BHS stormed into the playoffs with a 40-25 victory over the Lady Bulldogs here in Bearcat Gymnasium.
