BB: Bearcats roar back to win dramatic series

After losing a 10-5 slugfest in Game 1 of their Class 1A Region III bi-district playoff series with Kerens, it was either 'put up or shut up' for the Beckville Bearcats. By the time the marathon series was over Friday night it was the Kerens Bobcats who were shut up.

The Bearcats (14-12) continued to pour on the offensive firepower in Games 2 and 3, combining for 20 runs and 13 hits as they captured Game 2, 10-8, and Game 3, 10-4, to capture the come-from behind series, 2-1, and move to the Area round.

JACKSONVILLE, Tx - Missed opportunities early on, combined with 10 walks and five hit batters by Beckville pitching, allowed the Kerens Bobcats to slowly build an early lead, before a five-run fifth gave Thursday night's Game 1 of the best-of-three Class 1A Region III playoff series to KHS, 10-5, at Indian Field.

Beckville (12-12) will try to bounce back Friday night in Game 2 at 5 p.m. back in Jacksonville. Should the Bearcats even he series, a third game will be played after Game 2.

After slipping into the Class 1A playoffs with a late-season run, the Beckville Bearcats plan to make the most of their opportunity beginning this week when they open post season action against Kerens.

The 'Cats will play the Bobcats in a best-of-three series to be played at Jacksonville High School, beginning Thursday at 7 p.m. Game 2 of the series will be played Friday at 5 p.m., with Game 3, if necessary, to follow 30 minutes after Game 2.

MOUNT ENTERPRISE, Tx - Control problems by Beckville pitchers enabled the opportunistic Mount Enterprise Wildcats to score double-digit runs on just five hits as they used 14 free passes to first base, four BHS errors and seven stolen bases to knock off the Bearcats, 12-4, here at Wildcat Field Tuesday evening.

Dalton Etheredge pitched a two-hitter and teammates Colten Allen and Jesse Sipes each produced three hits apiece Friday night as the Beckville Bearcats rolled to their third consecutive District 20-1A victory with an 11-1 blasting of Union Hill at Bulldog Field.

Beckville designated hitter Calan Sokol drove in four runs and scored two himself and Jesse Sipes fanned 11 Tuesday night as the Beckville Bearcats captured their third District 20-1A victory in their last four games as they blew past Leverett's Chapel, 18-3, in five innings at Bearcat Field.

Sipes allowed just one earned run (3 total), while scattering three hits and walking three to record the complete-game victory.

BECKVILLE, Tx - The Beckville Bearcats used aggressive base running, timely hitting and solid defense Saturday night to move over the .500 mark in District 20-1A play with a convincing 16-6 win over Mount Enterprise in five innings here at Bearcat Field. Mitchell Bunn paced the BHS attack with six runs batted in.

Colten Allen had a perfect day at the plate, connecting with a pair of doubles, while giving a strong pitching performance on the hill as the Beckville Bearcats won a huge District 20-1A baseball game, 4-3, over Hawkins at Bearcat Field last Friday night.
