Transferring from tradition-rich Carthage High School during the last school year, new Beckville quarterback Jaylon Allison has brought confidence and a revived winning attitude to the Bearcats' football program.

Add that to the Beckville ISD's addition of former Carthage defensive coordinator Eric Robinson as the district's new athletics director and head football coach and the Bearcats are ready to start the 2012 season on a positive.

Coaches at the Class 1A level often find themselves recruiting athletes in their own school's hallways because they want to get the best athletes on the floor. Beckville girls' basketball coach Britney Redfearn did that a year ago and found some great role players.

Redfearn was also pleased this summer when some of her players took the initiative to participate in a 'playday' at Gary's Bobcat Gymnasium, taking on Overton as well as the Lady Bobcats.

TYLER, Tx - Colton Searcy found the endzone across the middle for his second touchdown reception of the Tyler Junior College 7-on-7 State Qualifying Tournament and the ensuing two-point completion from Jaylon Allison to Colten Allen with less than a minute to play Saturday gave the Beckville Bearcats their first-ever berth in the state tournament with a 35-34 come-from-behind win over Shelbyville.

TYLER, TX - Beckville first-year quarterback Jaylon Allison used a pair of strong second-half performances in pool play and some impressive statistics Saturday afternoon to lead the Bearcats into the championship round of the Tyler Junior College State Qualifying 7-on-7 Tournament at Lindsey Park.

Allison completed over 65 percent of his passes on the day and led BHS to a 1-2 mark in Pool 'A' play, which was good enough to put the Bearcats in the title round.

The list of all-stars and all-state players from Panola County and the area continues to grow as Carthage's Samantha Clakley and Beckville's Montana Searcy and Shelbi Jo Dodson were named to their respective all-state softball lists.

Carthage baseball player Clint Cage also received another honor as he will join Spring Hill's Talyn Cellucci and play in the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association Class 1A-2A-3A All-Star Game set for 12-noon Saturday at Round Rock's Dell Diamond.

ELYSIAN FIELDS, Tx - While members of the Beckville Bearcats' football team get to know each other and sharpen their offensive and defense passing skills, new head coach Eric Robinson is utilizing the summer's 7-on-7 program to observe his new team, to learn its strengths and examine the weaknesses.

The 'Cats are participating in the Elysian Fields League on each Thursday in June, joining the Yellowjackets, New Diana, Shelbyville and Waskom, with games beginning at 6 p.m. each week.

After winning their first 18 games of the season, eventually taking over the No.1 spot in the state in Class 1A and capturing the District 21-1A Co-Championship and a berth into the regional finals, the Beckville Ladycats led the all-league selections which were released last week.

Beckville junior third baseman Shelbi Jo Dodson and sophomore shortstop Taylor Lindsay were named Co-Most Valuable Players by the coaches in the district, while BHS freshman Cassidy Cox was named the Newcomer of the Year.

Carthage High School has announced that it will be hosting a pair of annual football camps. There will be a quarterbacks' camp coming the next two weeks and a camp for players of all positions in early August.

The 6th Annual Carthage Bulldog Quarterback Camp is scheduled for Tuesday, June 19, with the second one on Tuesday, June 26. Each camp is for incoming fifth through ninth graders for the upcoming school year.

GARY, Tx - As he prepares for his third year as girls head basketball coach at Gary High School, David Duncan comes into this school year with something he hasn't had the previous two - a veteran squad.

The Ladycats will be in the same district, joining new teams in District 22-1A D-I as members include former 2A squad Joaquin, along with 1A Martinsville, in addition to old league squads Shelbyville, Tenaha and Timpson.

The Carthage Bulldog football team will host 7-on-7 football action on Thursday at Bulldog Stadium - taking on Marshall and Evangel high schools starting at 5 p.m. - and then be in Diboll on Saturday in the only state qualifying tournament the Dawgs will participate in this summer.

There will be pool games at Diboll beginning at 2:30 p.m. and the top teams will then advance to the championship round, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Games will be played at or near Lumberjack Stadium.
