CHS lifters tie for third at Rusk meet

The Center Roughriders and Lady Riders both tied for third place
overall at the Rusk Powerlifting Meet held Saturday.

The Center boys and girls powerlifting squads both tied for third place Saturday in their initial meet of the year when they participated in the Rusk Powerlifting Meet.

In the individual competitions, Center's Jeremy Small won the 165-lb. weight class and Kevinski Pitts placed second in the 200-lb. weight class in the boys division, while Lady Riders' Gaby Mireles and Jessica Williams both took second in their respective weight classes in the girls division.

The Roughriders are returning three lifters from a year ago, while the Lady Riders have four back from 2009.

BOYS DIVISION
Small totaled 1,275 pounds in his weight class to take top honors, while Pitts also finished with 1,275 pounds in his weight class.

Other Center competitors for Center included: Melvin Suell came in third in the 123-lb. weight class, accumulating 760 pounds; Michael Smith also claimed third place, tallying 865 pounds in the 242-lb. class; Pedro Almaguer came in fourth in the 132-lb. class with 835 pounds; and Nathan Sears was fourth in the 198-lb. weight class with 940 total pounds.

Also, Center's Miguel Onate finished fifth in the 242-lb. class, with a total weight of 850; Justin Lovett racked up 930 pounds in the 165-lb. weight class, for sixth place; Aaron Lawson also came in sixth, in the 181-lb. class with 760 pounds; and Michael Hernandez placing 9th in the 220-lb. class with 830 pounds.

GIRLS DIVISION
For the Lady Riders, Mireles tallied 580 pounds to finish runner-up in the 165-lb. class, while Williams rolled up 560 pounds in the 220-plus-lb. weight class.

Other competitors for the Lady Riders included: Lucero Espinosa placing third in the 220-lb. class with 485 pounds; KaDijah Cooper coming in third in the 123-lb. class with 470 pounds; Christina Martin tallied 530 pounds to place fourth in the 181-lb. class; Chakera Ingram came in fifth in the 148-lb. class with 520 total pounds; and Kristen Gilchrist came in seventh in the 148-lb. class with 495 pounds.

Also lifting for the Lady Riders included Jasmine Belin, Sykera Berry, Jessica Edwards and Brittany Yelverton.
