Athletes interested in becoming a part of the Panola College baseball team will have a chance next month to earn a spot on the NJCAA squad.

Ponies' head coach Todd Shelton has announced that the college will be holding an open tryout on Tuesday, June 12, at 11 a.m. at Jim Reeves Memorial Field at the Carthage City Sports Complex on the loop.

Registration will begin 45 minutes prior to the start of the session. The cost to register is $25 (cash only) and the participant must bring a copy of his current physical, all personal equipment and a signed waiver form that can be found on the Panola College baseball website (www.panola.edu/athletics/baseball/tryouts-a-camps).

Those who participate must be a 2012/2013 graduate or a current freshman in college. Anyone who has enrolled or participated in another other junior college will need to have a signed release or waiver form in order to participate, according to Shelton.

The areas of emphasis at the tryout will include: 60-yard dash; evaluation of arm strength and defensive abilities; evaluation of offensive abilities in batting practice; pitchers will be evaluated in the bullpen.
