Gary head tennis coach April Young couldn't have been more proud when she spoke about her tennis teams at last week's athletic banquet held at the school. And she had every right to be proud as the Bobcats and Lady Bobcats swept the District 20-1A tennis titles this spring.

"I never have to worry about these young boys and ladies when we go on the road because they always represent Gary High School in the best way possible," she said when talking about the conduct. "It never fails that administrators, coaches and parents at other schools praise our kids for the way they conduct themselves."

As for the competition, Gary has quickly earned a reputation of a team to be reckoned with after sweeping the championships this year.

"There's one thing for sure, teams know when they play Gary now that they're going to have a tough time," Young stated. "I couldn't be prouder of the way these kids played this year. They really worked hard and deserve the championships they won."

Five members of the Bobcats' squad advanced to the regional tournament. Clay Myers and Matt Wood were district champions in the boys' doubles. They were joined by Cameron Coligan, Matthew Odom and Colby Baker as regional tournament qualifiers.

Other members of the boys' team included Connor Coligan, Justin Singletary, Russell Skinner, Hampton Baird and Chase Dawson.

All four members of the Lady Bobcats advanced to the regional tourney. Katalynn Bird was the district champion in girls' singles, while Taylor Ratley, Caitlyn Thornton and Bailey Wyatt were regional qualifiers as well.
