TRCK: Ladycats claim District 20-1A track title

Garrison secures boys title, Lady Bulldogs place second

The Garrison Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs made every effort to sweep the competition at the District 20-1A Track & Field Meet held last Wednesday and Thursday at Beauchamp Stadium in Beckville. The 'Dogs ran away with the boys' competition, outscoring second-place Overton, 208-155, while the Lady Bulldogs were nosed out by host-Beckville, 113-112, in the girls' race. Garrison also won the JV boys division.

The Garrison varsity boys, along with Overton, easily outdistanced the third-place team, Alto, who scored 72 points in the competition, while Timpson placed fourth with 67 points. Beckville posted 40 points for fifth, Cushing was sixth with 33 points, Carlisle (28) finished seventh, New Summerfield (12) was eighth and Mount Enterprise (8) placed ninth.

Beckville and Garrison did the same in the varsity girls' race. Alto was third, scoring 77 points, with Cushing (76) placing fourth, Overton (68) coming in fifth, Martins Mill (49) grabbing sixth, Timpson (47) ran seventh, Mount Enterprise (42) placed eighth, Carlisle (16) was ninth and New Summerfield (8) took the 10th spot

Garrison easily outdistanced the field in the junior varsity boys, scoring 201 points. Cushing posted 87 points for second, Alto was third with 85 and Mount Enterprise was a distant fourth with 10 points. Martins Mill and Beckville each scored five points, while Overton, Timpson, Carlisle and New Summerfield failed to score.

Here are the highlights of the individual results:

Varsity Boys
400-meter Relay:
Timpson won the 400-meter relay, posting a time of 42.81, while Garrison was second with 44.37 and Overton ran third with a 45.78. Beckville placed fourth with a 45.90.

800-meter Relay: Garrison captured the 800-meter relay with a 1:34.71, with Overton coming in second with a 1:35.05 and Beckville securing third with a 1:35.33.

1600-meter Relay: The 'Dogs also won the 1600-meter relay with a time of 3:32.99. Overton placed second with a 2:34.40 and Alto ran third with a 3:37.08. Timpson placed fifth with a 3:45.77.

100-meters: Overton's Chris Harris won the 100-meters in a time of 10.74, with Logan Clark of Garrison placing second with an 11.11 and DeKendrick Hooper of Timpson securing an 11.39 for third. Garrison's Khiran Arrington (11.61) ran fourth, Justin Johnson (11.63) of Mount Enterprise was fifth and Josh Leadon (11.74) of the Wildcats came in seventh.

200-meters: Alto David Berryman won the 200-metr dash with a 23.71, with Beckville's Dalton Etheredge running a 23.78 for second. Garrison's Nathan Burkhalter (24.40) came in fifth and teammate Justin Adkinson (24.58) ran sixth.

400-meters: Overton's Chris Harrison claimed the 400-meters with a 50.55, with Garrison's Austin Edwards placing second with a 52.68. Hunter Key (53.78) of Garrison was fourth and Jerald Burton (57.21) of Timpson ran seventh.

110-meter High Hurdles: Garrison's Chris Chandler won the 110-meter high hurdles with a 14.90, while Javarcea Bussey of Timpson was second with a time of 15.93. Chris Feaster (17.40) of Garrison posted the fourth-best time, with Andy Dang (19.43) of Garrison running fifth, James Marshall (20.43) of Timpson coming in sixth and Blair Warren (20.81) of Mount Enterprise taking seventh.

300-meter Intermediate Hurdles: Chris Chandler of Garrison won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 39.17 and Timpson's Javarcea Bussey was second with a 42.24. Garrison's Tykiedrean (44.37) was fifth and teammate William Rogers (45.05) was sixth, while Timpson's James Marshall (48.21) ran seventh.

800-meters: Austin Edwards of Garrison won the 800-meter run with a 2:04.68. Overton's Dax Waggoner was second with a 2:14.28 and Garrison's Tyler Matson (2:17.11) was sixth.

1600-meters: Brandon Billey of Garrison won the 1600-meter run with a 5:06.36, with Carlisle's Adam Sanchez placing second with a 5:12.24. Cade Kendrick (5:26.24) was fifth.

3200-meters: Brandon Billey also won the 3200-meter run, posting a time of 11:29. Cade Kendrick ran fifth with an 11:49.

Long Jump: Chris Chandler of Garrison won the long jump with a leap of 20-2.5, with Mount Enterprise's Justin Johnson third at 19-6.75 and Dalton Etheredge placing fifth with a 19-0.

Triple Jump: Overton's Tim Hawkins won the triple jump with a 40-7.5, with Timpson's Javarcea Bussey (38-10) placing third, Garrison's William Rogers (38-6.75) coming in fourth.

High Jump: Chris Chandler of Garrison won the high jump with a leap of 6-0, while Lorenzo Young of Timpson placed second, also posting a 6-0. Javarcea Bussey of Timpson was third with a 5-8 and William Rogers of Garrison was fourth with a 5-8.

Pole Vault: Garrison's Justin Adkinson won the pole vault with a height of 11-0, while teammate Chris Feaster was second with an 11-0 and Andy Dang placed third with a 10-0.

Shot Put: Overton's Austin Cook won the shot put with a distance of 55-1.5, while Beckville's James Jinks was third with a 42-4.

Discus: Overton's Austin Cook also won the discus with a distance of 159-9. Josh Robinson of Garrison placed second with a 119-3, James Jinks of Beckville was fifth with a 108-6 and Nathaniel Heflin was sixth with a 98-1.

Varsity Girls
400-meter Relay:
Beckville secured the 400-meter relay with a time of 52.30, while Garrison was second with a 52.74 and Mount Enterprise ran third with a 53.68.

800-meter Relay: Beckville claimed top honors in the 800-meter relay with a time of 1:53.21, while Alto was second with a 1:53.37 and Garrison was third with a 1:54.65 and Timpson ran fourth with a 1:55.93.

1600-meter Relay: Cushing won the 1600-meter relay with a 4:27.71, while Overton was second with a 4:36.11 and Garrison was fourth (4:47.93) and Beckville (4:48.90) placed fifth.

100-meters: Timpson's Jakelia Caraway won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.87, with Ieshia Wells of Alto placing second with a 13.02 and Aleshia Townsend of Mount Enterprise placing third with a 13.08. Cheyenne Haynes (13.14) of Beckville came in fourth, Taylor Lindsay (13.27) of Beckville took fifth and M. Johnson (13.89) of Garrison coming in eighth.

200-meters: Jakelia Caraway of Timpson also claimed top honors in the 200-meters with a time of 26.40, while Aleshia Townsend of Mount Enterprise was second with a 26.95. LaToya Cartwright of Timpson placed fourth with a 28.14 and J. Lilley of Garrison secured sixth with a 29.93.

400-meters: Amanda Murdock of Cushing won the 400-meters with a time of 1:01.37. Beckville's Taylor Lindsay and Devin Woodall placed third and fourth, respectively, with times of 1:04.20 and 1:10.78. The Ladycats' Kerri Dailey placed seventh with a 1:15.02.

100-meter High Hurdles: Garrison's J. Berry won the 100-meter high hurdles with a time of 15.49. Shamanna Ragsdale was a distant second with an 18.71.

300-meter Intermediate Hurdles: Garrison's Berry also won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 48.27. Beckville's Ivy Rieke posted the second-best finish with a 52.52, with Timpson's Leeann Gustin came in fourth with a 56.68.

800-meters: Amanda Murdock of Cushing won the 800-meters with a time of 2:33.99. Kerri Dailey of Beckville claimed third with a 2:46.83 and teammate Alison Williams came in fourth with a 2:48.40.

1600-meters: Martins Mill's Sydney Bartlett won the 1600-meters with a time of 6:30.43, with Beckville's Alison Williams coming in third with a 6:41.84.

3200-meters: Bartlett also won the 3200-meters, posting a time of 14:48, with Garrison's Marquez claiming third with a 15:41.

Long Jump: Mount Enterprise's Aleshia Townsend captured the long jump with a 16-4.5, with Timpson's Jakelia Caraway placing fourth with a 15-6.0 and Beckville's Maya Bradford secured fifth with a 14-4.75.

Triple Jump: Garrison's J. Berry won the triple jump with a 33-10.25. Cheyenne Haynes of Beckville was a close second with a 33-0.75, Alexys Hammett of Mount Enterprise placed fifth with a 30-4.0 and Garrison's Kimbrough came in sixth with a 29-3.25.

High Jump: Haily Jenkins of Martins Mill won the high jump with a 4-10, with Beckville's Taylor Lindsay and Ivy Rieke grabbing the second and third spots, respectively, with heights of 4-10 and 4-8. Garrison's Westmoreland was fourth with a 4-8 and Timpson's LaToya Cartwright placed sixth with a 4-8.

Pole Vault: Webb of Garrison won the pole vault with a height of 8-0 and Devin Woodall of Beckville was third with a 7-6.

Shot Put: Gresham of Garrison won the shot put with a distance of 33.3.5, with Timpson's KeAmbria Holloway placing third with a 30-4. Taylor Swann of Beckville was sixth with a 27-11.

Discus: Gresham of Garrison won the discus as well, with a distance of 126-2. Garrison's Clements posted a fourth-place finish with a 95-3.
