Three area female powerlifters will be making the trip to Corpus Christi March 23-24 after excelling in their respective divisions last Friday at the Region III Powerlifting Meet held in Canton. Center's Chakera Ingram will be making a return trip to State, while teammate Kadijah Cooper and Joaquin's Olivia Worsham will be making their first trips after getting close last season.
Ingram, who is looking to redeem herself after a disappointing finish at State a year ago, placed third in the 148-lb. class in the Division 2 (Class 3A) competition, with a total weight of 835 pounds.
She had a top weight of 310 in the squat competition, while posting a 135 in the bench press and a 390 in the deadlift. She topped out at 780 pounds last season at the regional meet, finishing third.
Ingram was just five pounds behind the second-place finisher, who posted 840 total pounds.
Stephanie Brown of Canton placed first in the 148-lb. weight class last week, lifting 365 in the squat, 155 in the bench and 405 in the deadlift for 925 total pounds.
Cooper qualified for State with a fifth-place finish the regional meet, as she totaled 665 pounds in the 123-lb. weight class. She lifted 255 in the squat, 110 pounds in the bench and 300 pounds in the deadlift.
McKenze Sander of Palestine claimed top honors in the weight class, posting a best of 305 pounds in the squat, 130 pounds in the bench and 340 in the deadlift, for a total of 775 pounds.
Cooper was five pounds behind the fourth-place finisher.
Center finished 13th overall in Division 2 Region III, scoring four points. Canton took top honors with 69 pounds, with Palestine placing second with 18, Crandall coming in third with 17, Lindale placing fourth with 11 and Emory Rains securing fifth with nine points.
Worsham competed in Division 3 (Class 1A-2A) Region III and won the 132-lb. weight class by five pounds. She topped out at 290 pounds in the squat, 150 in the bench and 315 pounds in the deadlift to finish with 755 pounds.
Courtney Salinas of Cumby was second with 750 pounds, posting a 320 in the squat, 130 in the bench and 300 in the deadlift.
Two Shelbyville powerlifters also competed in Division 3, with Tameria Lathan placing fifth in the 105-lb. class with 535 total pounds and Jakera Land coming in 10th in the 181-lb. weight class with 605 total pounds.
Lathan squatted 195 pounds, bench pressed 105 pounds and dead lifted 235 pounds. She finished 60 pounds behind the fourth-place finisher. Kaitlin Link of Cushing won the weight class with a total weight of 715 pounds.
Land squatted 230 pounds, bench pressed 100 and dead lifted 275 pounds. She finished five pounds behind ninth place and 70 pounds behind the eighth-place finisher. Tiphany Baker of Leveret's Chapel won the weight class with 880 total pounds.
Cumby won the Division 3 Region III overall competition with 25 points, with Rice coming in second with 23, Troup placing third at 21, Winnsboro taking fourth with 15 and White Oak placing fifth. Joaquin was seventh overall with seven points and Shelbyville placed 27th.
Two other Center powerlifters competed in the Division 2 Region III Meet. Gaby Mireles placed seventh in the 181-lb. weight class and Jessica Edwards was sixth in the 198-lb. class.
Mireles had a best squat lift of 245 pounds, with a top bench of 120 and deadlift of 305. Here total of 670 pounds was 50 pounds behind the sixth-place finisher.
Jacey Williams of Canton took top honors in the weight class with a total weight of 915 pounds, posting a 390 in the squat, a 185 in the bench and 340 in the deadlift.
Center's Jessica Edwards placed sixth in the 198-lb. class with 665 total pounds. She squatted 245, topped out at 115 in the bench press and 305 pounds in the deadlift for a total of 665 pounds.
Trayshanna Phillips of Crandall won the weight class with 825 pounds. Edwards was five pounds behind fifth place.
