Tenaha secures third straight win in decision over Gary

Defending District 22-1A champion Tenaha kept pace with Garrison for the league lead after two games as the Lady Tigers received 18 points from Ashlee Ray and 14 from Tia Thomas Tuesday night in a 68-28 victory over Gary in the Tenaha Special Events Center.

Tenaha captured its third consecutive victory with the win as the Lady Tigers moved to within one win of a .500 record (10-11) on the season, while keeping pace with Garrison (5-9) at 2-0 in district play.

In other District 22-1A games on Tuesday, the Lady Bulldogs knocked off Shelbyville (13-6), 46-38, while Beckville (9-12) picked up its first league win with a 45-36 victory over Timpson (4-10).

Beckville is now tied with Shelbyville in third place in the standings with identical 1-1 records, while Timpson and Gary (3-7) are both 0-2.

The Lady Tigers will have a chance to take over sole possession of first place in the league chase on Friday night when they travel to Garrison. Beckville will look to move into a tie for second when the Ladycats travel to Gary for the Lady Bobcats' homecoming. Timpson will host Shelbyville.

In games next Tuesday, Beckville will host Shelbyville, Garrison will visit Gary and Tenaha will host Timpson.

Ray continued her hot scoring by leading all scorers against the Lady Bobcats, while Thomas also reached double figures, along with Eboni Moore's 10 points.

Senior Whitney Jackson pitched in seven points for Tenaha, while Jalysa Steadman and Taylor Killey each threw in six points. Tiara Williams scored four points and Shantivia Gray managed three for THS.

The Lady Tigers only managed a 13-9 lead at the end of the opening period, but quickly widened the gap to 32-14 at the half by outscoring the Lady Bobcats 19-5 in the second quarter.

Tenaha pulled away in the third quarter, allowing just seven points, while scoring 18 on the offensive end for a 50-21 lead entering the final period of play.
