The Center Roughrider soccer got the 2012 season off to a fast start by taking a 2-0 lead at the half Tuesday night en route to a 4-0 blanking of Atlanta at Roughrider Stadium.

Center (1-0), which will continue the season at home Friday night with a 5 p.m. matchup with Carlisle, received a stellar performance in goal by senior Felipe Parra, who did not allow a goal all night.

"Felipe faced four shots in the game and did an excellent job for us defensively," said Center head coach Richard Ruiz. "It was a great team effort for the first game of the season."

Four different Center players scored goals in the contest. Junior Bryan Ruiz put the Roughriders on top with 33 minutes left in the half with an unassisted goal. Sophomore Osiel Garcia took a pass from Jonathan Rafael and slammed a shot into the back of the net with 8:05 left in the half to put the 'Riders comfortably ahead, 2-0.

Center sophomore Pablo Gonzalez took a pass from sophomore Ruben Landin and slipped a shot in with 30 minutes left in the match to add an insurance goal and give the 'Riders a 3-0 lead.

The final goal of the night came with 10 minutes remaining on an unassisted goal by Eduardo Chavez.
