The Carthage Lady Bulldogs had a long holiday layoff, but it didn't appear to make any difference when they returned to the court Friday night as they rolled over Gladewater, 37-11, in the District 16-3A opener for both squads in Bulldog Gymnasium.
Carthage (13-9), which hadn't played a game in 20 days, won the game despite shooting just 26% (15-of-58) from the field. The Lady Dawgs persevered despite turning the ball over 19 times. CHS did, however, create some of its offense with 18 steals on the defensive end.
Tambra Mitchell paced the Carthage offensive attack, hitting 5-of-10 from the field and 4-of-5 from the charity stripe to lead all scorers with 14 points. Emilee Mclinn threw in eight points, Chasity Trayler pitched in five, Salena Robinson and Claudia Williams both contributed four points and Lauren Thompson rounded out the scoring with two.
As a team, Carthage totaled 30 rebounds, with 17 of those coming on the offensive end. Mclinn was in double figures with 10, hitting the offensive glass hard with eight. Mitchell grabbed nine boards, Trayler and Jarnai Hill each accounted for three, Thompson and Robinson secured two each and Williams had one.
Robinson and Williams both recorded four steals each, with Trayler, Mitchell and Mclinn grabbing three.
Trayler dished out five assists.
The Lady Dawgs will continue district play on Tuesday when they travel to Spring Hill. Carthage will be at Pittsburgh on Friday, with the varsity getting underway at 6 p.m.
