GARY, Tx -- The Wells Lady Pirates posted a spotless 4-0 record to capture top honors in the girls' division of the annual Gary Basketball Tournament on Saturday. The Lady Pirates clipped Chireno, 38-36, in the finale.
Overton claimed third-place honors with a 33-21 win over Martinsville, while Cushing took home the consolation trophy with a 49-37 triumph over Shelbyville. Broaddus had to go to overtime to claim the fifth spot in the tournament with a 33-29 verdict over Joaquin.
The host Gary Lady Bobcats were winless at 0-3 in the tournament. After falling to West Rusk, 54-32, on Thursday, GHS dropped a 40-20 setback to New Summerfield on Friday and a 32-28 loss at the hands of Joaquin on Saturday.
Beckville finished with a 1-2 record at the tournament. The Ladycats fell to Joaquin, 53-44, on Thursday, but came back to knock off Mount Enterprise, 36-32, on Friday before losing to Shelbyville, 41-29, in the game that could have put BHS in the Consolation contest.
After dropping their tourney opener on Thursday, the Shelbyville Lady Dragons battled back to the consolation contest on Saturday, only to fall short to the Cushing Galkats, 49-37.
Shelbyville Kiera Montgomery and Joaquin's Chasity Baker were both named to the all-tournament team for their performances in the three-day tourney. They were joined by Erica Carson of Overton, Taylor Enloe of Martinsville, Sam Beasley of Cushing, Tamra Bathol of Broaddus, Lauren Lee and Evelyn Gonzalez of Chireno and Whitney Tobias and Sarah Benton of Wells were also honored.
Here's a rundown of Saturday's action that included area teams:
Shelbyville 41, Beckville 29 -- Kiera Montgomery poured in 21 points, including 12 in the second half, to lead the Lady Dragons past Beckville, 41-28.
Kadeshia Turner and Camory Bolton added five points apiece, Summer Williams and Jakera Land each scored three and Haleigh Cooper and Rashundria Lathan dropped in two points apiece for the Lady Dragons.
Ivy Rieke scored seven of her nine points in the fourth quarter, while T'Ouja Adams dropped in eight points, Maya Bradford and Devin Woodall scored four each and Cassidi Whitaker and Taylor Swann pitched in two points apiece for Beckville.
Shelbyville inched out to an 8-5 win at the end of the opening period, then widened the gap slightly to 17-11 at the break. Beckville never seriously threatened in the final two periods as the Lady Dragons had the upper hand of 10-7 team scoring in the third and 14-11 in the fourth.
Joaquin 32, Gary 28 -- Ava Stephen scored seven of her 11 points in the second quarter and Annabeth Vaughn scored five of her eight points in the second half to lead the Joaquin Lady Rams past Gary, 32-28.
Baker and Welch each added four points, Whitney Vaughn dropped in three and Martinez scored two points for JHS.
Brittany Odom paced the Lady Bobcats with eight points, scoring five in the first two periods. Collyn Pinkertson scored all seven of her points in the second half, while Channa Bird dropped in six, Riley Beckham scored four and Macie Innerarity scored three points.
Joaquin took a 10-8 lead at the end of the opening period and widened the lead to 17-11 at the half. The Lady Bobcats began to close the gap in the third quarter, pulling to within 22-19, but the Lady Rams were able to hold off the Gary charge in the final stanza.
Cushing 49, Shelbyville 37 (Consolation Game) -- Shelbyville's Montgomery scored six of her 11 points in the first quarter and Williams led the team with four 3-pointers and 12 points, but Cushing claimed the consolation game with a 49-37 win over the Lady Dragons.
Sam Beasley led the Galkats with 20 points, while Amanda Murdock added 15 and Mackenzie Tucker threw in eight.
Cooper scored eight for Shelbyville, while Bolton dropped in three points and Turner pitched in two points.
Broaddus 33, Joaquin 29 (OT) (5th-Place Game) -- Katelyn Cockrell scored 10 points, including two in overtime, but the Broaddus Lady Bulldogs captured the fifth-place game by scoring six points in the extra period for a 33-29 victory.
Annabeth Vaughn dropped in five points for Joaquin, while Whitney Vaughn and Ava Stephens chipped in four points each and Mallory Martinez, Chasity Baker and Jordan Welch were held to a field goal each.

Beckville 36, Mount Enterprise 32 -- Bradford scored seven of her nine points in the fourth quarter and Rieke dropped in a team-high 12 points to lead the Ladycats past Mount Enterprise, 36-32.
Woodall threw in five points for BHS, while Adams added four, Taylor Swann pitched in three and Cheyenne Haynes scored one point.
The Galcats took a 15-13 lead at the end of the first period and still held a 23-21 lead heading into the fourth quarter. But Beckville scored 15 fourth-quarter points and came from behind to pic up the win.
New Summerfield 40, Gary 20 -- The Gary Lady Bobcats were within striking distance of New Summerfield at the half, trailing 15-10, but could only manage three third-quarter points and NSHS pulled away for a 49-20 win.
Odom paced the Gary offense with six points, while Bird and Chelsea Powdrill dropped in five points each. Josey Greer and Riley Beckham scored two points each.
Overton 53, Timpson 45 -- Jakelia Caraway scored eight of her team-high 18 points in the first quarter, but the Timpson Lady Bears came up short against Overton, 53-45.
Rachel Reeves added 14 points for Timpson, hitting all five free throws and adding three 3-pointers. Tammi Harris scored seven points, and LaToya Cartwright, Reed and Ke'Ambria Holloway each scored two points.
Shelbyville 39, Douglass 21 -- In a game on Friday, Montgomery hit four field goals in the first quarter and then added seven more points in the third period to lead the Shelbyville Lady Dragons past Douglass, 39-21.
Williams and Bolton each added six points for the Lady Dragons, while Cooper scored four, Turner dropped in three, Rashundria Lathan scored two points and Shameria Lathan pitched in one to help the Lady Dragon cause.
