The Joaquin Lady Rams started on a positive note with a 53-44 win over Beckville, but dropped a 42-25 setback to Wells on the final game of the night and will now have Friday off before heading back to the court on Saturday at 12:45 p.m.

The host Gary Lady Bobcats also came up short in the opening round, dropping a 54-32 setback to West Rusk, while Garrison fell to 15th-ranked Martinsville, 30-22.

It was the scoring of Caraway and Reeves that gave the Lady Bears the fire power they needed in the first half. THS took a 14-5 lead after the first quarter and stretched it to a 16-point advantage at the half as they never looked back.

"That was one of our strongest performances of the season so far," said Timpson head coach Keith Prather. "I hope we can continue it through the rest of the tournament. The girls did an outstanding job."

Joaquin 53, Beckville 44 -- Ava Stephens scored 13 points and Chasity Baker added 11 more as the Joaquin Lady Rams took a 13-9 lead in the first quarter and slowly built on it to gain the nine-point win.

They were within striking distance in the third quarter, only trailing 33-25 heading into the fourth quarter.
