The Tenaha subvarsity football teams had a successful evening last Thursday night in their contests against Timpson at The Pit. The Tiger junior varsity won, 24-0, while the junior high 'A' teams tied 6-6 and the Tenaha Junior High 'B' team won its scrimmage, 1-0.
Junior Varsity
Assuntay Cleaver scored on a pair of runs of more than 30 yards as the Tiger junior varsity improved to 2-0 on the season with a 24-0 blanking of the Bears. Cleaver also threw two touchdown passes, one to Jim Evans and the other to Demon Horton.
It is unknown at this time when the next junior varsity contest will be scheduled. It could possibly come on Oct. 22 vs. West Sabine. It will be announced at a later date.
Junior High 'A'
Timpson and Tenaha tied 6-6 in the junior high 'A' matchup. Timpson led 6-0 at intermission.
Keontas Davis scored from four yards out for Tenaha with 1:56 left in the third quarter after the Tigers had held the ball for most of the period. Excellent ball control was led by Davis, Brady Tovar and Demarkus Perry, who played well offensively all night long, according to Coach Chad Ashby.
Credited with outstanding play defensively for the Tigers was Tony Johnson, who made several tackles in the Bear backfield, according to the coach.
Tenaha is now 2-2-1 on the year, 1-1-1 in District 19-1A play. The Tiger junior high teams will play at Waskom on Thursday, beginning at 5 p.m. with the junior high 'B' squad.
Junior High 'B'
Robert Salas performed well for the Tigers' junior high 'B' team in a 1-0 scrimmage setback to the Bears, according to the Tenaha coach. Salas was credited with outstanding defensive play and was also the most productive player on offense as well.
Eddie Perez paced the Tiger defense with an interception.
