SHELBYVILLE -- The Shelbyville Dragons are looking to improve on last year's playoff appearance, and they got things off to a roaring start here Tuesday night, putting together an impressive performance in a 53-34 win over the Brookeland Wildcats.
Before the game, head coach Reggie Parks stated, "We expect to be pretty good, because we've got some kids back from last year, and we have a couple of good looking freshmen. But we still have to get out there and perform."
The Dragons showed some experience and some promising young talent in the contest, as senior guard Ja'Michael Jenkins poured in 21 points to lead the offensive effort.
Freshman C.J. Watson added 15, while pulling down five rebounds. Marcus Edwards added eight points and four boards, and Symyron Robertson chipped in six points and six rebounds.
The Dragons jumped out to a 26-16 halftime lead, then cruised to the finish with a solid defensive effort.
Prior to the varsity contest, the Dragon junior varsity looked at least as dominant as the varsity, beating Brookeland by a score of 32-15.
The Dragons will travel to Cushing for a pair of games on Friday. Tipoff for the JV is set for 5 p.m.
