Led by Daniel Woodhatch, the Center boys cross country team got a good look at the course they will be competing at for the District 18-3A title on Oct. 22 as they battled competitors at the Hudson Invitational on Saturday and posted a 4th-place finish.

Woodhatch was one of several 'Rider runners who set personal bests as he finished in 21st place overall with a time of 18:09.

Also setting new personal bests included Luis Perez, Jose Tello and Eric Gonzales, according to Center cross country coach Donna Shannon.

The Roughriders' top runner, Bryan Ruiz was battling an illness, but still ran strong stated Shannon.

Shannon said it was encouraging for the team as they finished higher overall than league foes Huntington, Diboll and Jasper.

The league meet for boys and girls is coming up on Saturday, Oct. 22, at Hudson.

The Center varsity girls did not compete Saturday because of the Poultry Festival, but Elizabeth Bailey ran third in the junior varsity girls' division.

In the middle school competition, Center's Karen Ruiz placed 48th overall.

The Center cross country squads will have one more tune-up before the league meet when they run in Lufkin Saturday in the Coke Classic.
