XC: Lady Dragons capture Zavalla event

The Shelbyville Lady Dragon cross country team continues to get stronger as the team advances through the season and nears the league meet. The Lady Dragons won the Zavalla Invitational Meet last Saturday, placing three runners in the top 10 finishers of the varsity division.

Ali Baty took the third overall place among all runners, posting a time of 12:37. Catashia Walker ran seventh with a time of 12:56 and Adaisha Cartwright was 10th with a time of 13:12.

Shelbyville Camory Bolton ran 12th at Zavalla, posting a time of 13:34, while Ashley Sellman was 24th with a 14:16.

Lady Dragon cross country coach Stephany Carter said her team will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 12, when they battle at the Grapeland Invitational.

Shelbyville will then compete at the Coca Cola Classic in Lufkin on Saturday, Oct. 15, and the Davey Crockett Invitational in Crockett on Wednesday, Oct. 19.

The district cross country meet is set for Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Lake Tejas.
