Shelbyville's junior varsity girls took the top three spots Saturday as the Lady Dragons cruised to the title of the Rider Invitational cross country meet held here at Center High School. Garrison won the varsity girls' division, with Carthage taking second and Carthage claimed top honors in the junior high girls' division.
Varsity Division
In the varsity girls' division, Garrison claimed top honors with 36 points, while the Lady Dogs of Carthage were second with 62 and Jasper placed third with 67. Center took fourth with 76 points and West Sabine rounded out the top five with 98 points.
Garrison's Morgan Bruce placed third in the individual competition, running a 14:22. Center's Celia Gonzalez ran fifth with a personal best time of 14:37 and Carthage's Abbie Dierkes posted a 14:40 for sixth place. Megan Davidson of Garrison was seventh with a 15:04, Bridget Bass of Garrison was eighth with a 15:04 and Breanne Colle of Garrison took 10th overall with a 15:12.
Other finishers for Carthage included: Sutton Travis running 11th with a 15:13; Chanah Osborne placing 15th with a 16:01; Kendi Hemphill posting a 16:18 for 19th; Alysia Roberts coming in 21st with a 16:28.
Other Center competitors included Elizabeth Bailey setting a personal best of 15:14 for 12th, Andrea Escobedo coming in 22nd, Evelyn Campos running 23rd with a personal best of 16:51 and Lorena posting a 25th-place finish.
Garrison's Kyla Hudnal ran 13th, while Taylor Webb finished 29th.
Timpson's Kimberly Michonski posted the 17th-best time of 16:03, while Leeann Gustin was 26th.
Junior Varsity Division
Shelbyville's Lady Dragon junior varsity claimed top honors in the junior varsity girls' division, scoring a low 17 points. Carthage was a distant second with 53 points, Tenaha was fourth with 91 and Gary placed fifth with 95 points.
Ali Baty, Catsshia Walker and Adashia Cartwright, all of Shelbyville finished first through third in the junior varsity girls competition. Carthage's Brianna Gwinn was fourth with a 14:45, Camory Bolton of Shelbyville ran fifth with a 15:02 and LaKuwaneshia McClelland of Shelbyville placed sixth with a 15:48.
Carthage runners Brianne Fullen, Danielle Zamazal and C.K. Williams, all of Carthage, claimed the eighth, ninth and 10th spots, respectively.
Gary's Riley Beckham finished 15th, while here teammate, AmbenLee Cranford was 16th. Other Gary finishers included Hailey Dixon at No.26, Melody McCroskey in the 28th spot and Macie Innerity in the 35th spot.
Other competitors for Shelbyville included Kelsey Pennington coming in 1th, Laney Porter at the No.12 spot and Tiara Johnson placing 13th.
Junior High Girls Division
Carthage easily outdistanced the field in the girls' junior high division, scoring 31 points. West Sabine was second with 69 points, Central Heights ran third with 81, Shelbyville was fourth with 90 and Garrison was the sixth-place team with 180 points.
Carthage's Julissa DeJulian placed first overall in the junior high girls' division with a time of 10:12. Shelbyville's JaKayra Ross was fourth with a 10:51, while Carthage runners Brianna Osborne and Chloe Neuman came in sixth and seventh.
Carthage runners Esmarelda Juarez and Colby Green were in the 10th and 11th spots overall.
