XC: Lady Dragon JV runners grab 2nd at Brooks

Shelbyville's Baty secures top honors in junior varsity division

A large group of area girls participated in the 2011 Brooks Invitational cross country meet held at Pecan Park in Nacogdoches Saturday. Garrison ran 15th overall in the varsity girls' division, while the Shelbyville Lady Dragon junior varsity posted a second place finish. The Carthage JV came in fourth.

In the varsity division, Hudson claimed top honors with 62 points, followed by Lufkin with 64 and East Bernard with 79. Tyler Lee ran fourth overall with 121 points and Douglass rounded out the top five with 164 points.

Center was led by Celia Gonzalez, who ran 82nd with a time of 15:11.79 in the 3200-meter race. Lady Rider Elizabeth Bailey was 89th with a 15:24.89 and Maria Tello was 92nd with a 15:30.96.

Other finishers for Center included: Jessica Soto (15:45.27); Evelyn Campos (16:28.85); and annette Barrientos (18:33.22).

Megan Davidson paced Garrison with the 46th place finish and a time of 14:00.64. Other finishers for Garrison included Morgan Bruce (15:22.85); Brianne Colle (15:45.08); Karla Avila (15:48.75); Kyla Hudnall (15:58.99); Kaylee Prince (17:20.20); and Taylor Webb (17:54.03).

Junior Varsity Girls
In the junior varsity division, Shelbyville scored 60 and finished one point behind first-place Lufkin. Hudson was third with 75 points, Carthage ran fourth with 105 and Central Heights was fifth with 118 points. Tenaha placed ninth.

Shelbyville's Al Baty was the top finisher in the junior varsity girls' division, posting a time of 13:50.97. Lady Dragon Catashia Walker was fourth with a 14:10.44, Adaisha Cartwright placed sixth with a 14:12.90.

Other finishers for Shelbyville included: Camory Bolton (15:21.39); Laney Porter (16:06.33); Lakuwaneshia McClelland (16:08.00); Kelsey Pennington (16:19.81); Tiara Johnson (16:36.57); and Amy Permenter (18:57.67).

Carthage was led by Abbie Dierkes' eighth place finish with a 14:31.28. Sutton Travis was 13th overall with a 14:59.66, Alysia Roberts ran a 15:54.41 for 32nd, Chanah Osborne was 35th with a 15:59.47 and Kendi Hemphill posted the 36th-best time of 16:05.26.

Other finishers for the Lady Dawgs were Samantha Martin (16:53.84); Briana Fuller (17:16.15); Danielle Zamazal (17:47.18); Caroline Horton (17:56.13); Amy Permenter (18:57.67); and Azalia Wallace (20:13.63).  

Latia Thomas paced Tenaha with a time of 18:04.52 as she ran 76th. Francisca Tovar was 77th with an 18:09.44, Kasey Cooks ran 78th with an 18:18.99 and Cheyenne Koller was 79th with a time of 18:19.41).

Other runners for the Lady Tigers' junior varsity included: Milli Martinez, Courtney Edwards, Camryn Sisk, Whitney Jackson, Ashlee Ray, Sabrina Koller, Cinthya Leos, Itziana Martinez, Taylor Walton, Marissa Cooper, Izel Martinez, Destiny Trammel, Takameria McClure, Karina Flores, alexis Portillo, Shantivia Gray, Jalysa Steadman, Tierra Henderson, Tytiannah Moore, Mary Estes, Taylor Killey, Eboni Moore and Brittany Parker.

Garrison was represented by Kim Garcia (18:49.98) and Reba Edwards (20:25.03).

Riley Beckham ran for Gary at the meet, finishing 24th with a time of 15:32.08. Melody McCroskey also ran for the Lady Bobcats.
