Despite missing three seniors who were taking ACT tests last Saturday, the Center Roughrider tennis team went on the road and kept its season mark perfect with victories over Jacksonville and Hallsville.

CHS rolled past Jacksonville, 14-5, claiming two more wins for an 'unofficial' 16-6 final. The 'Riders then won the competition with Hallsville, 11-5,

The wins improved Center to 7-0 on the young season. The team will return to action on Monday when they travel to Hudson.

Center 14, Jacksonville 5 -- Center swept boys' doubles and won 2-of-3 in girls' doubles, while clinching the win with five wins in six matches in boys' singles action early in the day in a 14-5 win over Jacksonville.

The teams played three 'extra' matches, with the Roughriders claiming two out of three wins for a 16-6 count in match sets.

In boys' doubles action, Center's No.1 tandem of Seth Grant and Jesse Campbell took an 8-2 win over Morgan Weaver and Dylan Hubbard. The CHS No.2 duo of Adam Reeves and Kwayde Lucas captured an 8-3 win over Eli Hugghins and Justin Rodgers. And the Center No.3 duo of Alec Lucas and D. Reynolds captured an 8-2 victory over Dylan Perry and Bradley Smith.

The Center mixed doubles tandem of Ross Reynolds and Ashton Lucas fought hard and escaped with an 8-6 win over Briana Beaver and Christian Roper.

The Lady Riders girls' doubles duos won 2-of-3 from Jacksonville. Center's No. duo of Emily Howard and Darby Hudspeth fell, 8-1, but the No.2 team of Jasmine Crowley and Chelsea Henderson topped Jacksonville's Maria Landin and Suzi McCuiston.

Center's No.3 duo of Jayton Cassell and Emily Koonce recorded an 8-2 win over Angela Mecellias and Maria Landin.

The 'Riders cruised in boys' singles, winning 5-of-6 regular matches and one extra match.

Grant, the Center boys' No.1 player, topped Weaver, 6-1, 6-4, and Campbell, the CHS No.2 player, topped Hubbard, 6-1, 6-0. Reynolds, who is the Center No.3 player, bumped Rodgers, 7-6, 7-5.

Reeves (No.4) recorded a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Huggins, while Lucas, the Center No.5 player, fell to Christian Roper, 8-2. Nathan Steuver, the Center No.6 player, buried Jacksonville's Dylan Perry, 8-4, while Kamden Lucas won an extra match over Smith, 8-1.

In girls' singles action, Center won three of the top six matches and split two extra matches.

Center's No.1 Emily Howard fell to Ellie Day, 6-4, 6-1, and No.2 Ashton Lucas dropped a 6-2, 6-4 match to Caroline Hernandez. Center's No.3, Darby Hudspeth, fell to Briana Beaver, 8-4.

Lady Rider No.4 player Jasmine Crowley was a 6-2, 6-3, winner over Maria Landin, while No.5 Emily Hearne was victorious over Suzi McCuiston, 7-5, 6-0. Center's No.6, Jayton Cassell, was an 8-4 winner over Angelica Landin.

In extra matches in girls' singles, Center's Emily Koonce was an 8-4 winner, while Chelsea Henderson dropped an 8-4 decision to Angela Mecillas, 8-4.

Center 11, Hallsville 5 -- Center used dominating play in girls' doubles and girls' singles - where they won 7-of-8 matches - to claim the victory later Saturday against Hallsville.

In girls singles, Howard dropped her No.1 singles match to Sarah Lilly, 0-6, 1-6, but Ashton Lucas topped Rochelle Wiley, 6-3, 6-1, in No.2 play. Center's Hudspeth was a winner in No.3 action, 6-1, 6-4, over Katrina Schutte, while Crowley claimed a win in No.4 play with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Marisela Soto.

Center's Hearne won her No.5 singles' match, 6-2, 6-3, over Taylor Stevenson of Hallsville. Center's Jayton Cassell and her opponent didn't finish their match.

Center swept the girls' doubles action, with Howard and Hudspeth blanking Palmer and Wiley, 8-0. Center's Crowley and Henderson were an 8-2 winner in No.2 play and Cassell and Hearne captured the No.3 girls' doubles, 8-1, over Stevenson and Soto.

The Roughriders also fared well in boys' singles, capturing three of four. Grant took a close match in No.1 action for Center, 7-6(7-3), 6-4. Campbell was a winner for CHS in No.2 play, a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Weston Godsey.

Thomas Chappell of Hallsville edged Center's Reynolds No.3 action. But Center's Reeves took a 6-1, 6-1 win in No.4 play over Cole Cathy. Kwayde Lucas and Alec Lucas and their competitors didn't finish their matches.

In mixed doubles, Hallsville's Jones and Lilley defeated Center's Ross Reynolds and Ashton Lucas, 9-8(9-7).

Center's boys' doubles No.1 duo of Campbell and Grant were 8-2 winners. The CHS No.2 doubles duo of Reeves and Kwayde Lucas fell, 5-8, the No.3 duo of Alec Lucas and Steuver dropped a 3-8 match and Reynolds and Kamden Lucas fell in an extra match.
