SB: Lady Ram duo leads All-20-2A softball selections

Joaquin infielders Alyssa Belrose and Taylor Wilkerson had outstanding seasons in 2011 as the Lady Ram softball players led the squad's postseason award recipients by being named to the All-District 20-2A softball teams which were released recently.
Belrose, a senior, was named as a first-team third baseman, along with Waskom's Abby Wyatt. Wilkerson, a junior, was one of two shortstops honored on the first team, along with Waskom's Mallory Alexander.
In all, Tatum and Waskom had the most players named to superlative, first and second teams, with nine players honored. The Lady Eagles had five first-team selections and four on the second team, while the Lady Wildcats had one superlative and four players each on the first and second squads.
Elysian Fields had four superlative members and four first-team players as well.
Jefferson had six players honored in the league, with three each on the first and second teams. Joaquin had three players honored and two honorable mention selections, while Harleton had a superlative player, in addition to a first teamer and a second teamer.
Elysian Fields captured the District 20-2A title. After receiving a first-round bye the Lady Jackets advanced past Queen City in the Area round before falling to Mineola in the Regional Quarterfinals, 2-1, in a best-of-three series.
Waskom placed second in the district and defeated White Oak, 2-1, in a best-of-three series in bi-district before being swept by Hooks in Area play. Tatum placed third in the league and was eliminated by Big Sandy Harmony, 2-1, in the short series in the bi-district round.
Joaquin finished the season with a 6-13 mark, unable to capture a league win as the Lady Rams posted a 0-10 district record.
Lady Ram sophomore pitcher Whitney Vaughn was a second-team selection, while catcher Jordan Welch (soph.) and rightfielder Olivia Worsham (So.) were both honorable mention selections.
Elysian Fields' Candise Wise was named the District 20-2A Most Valuable Player, while Waskom's Lauren Parker was selected as the Offensive Player of the Year and Kaylee Prather of Elysian Fields was named the Defensive Player of the Year.
Harleton's Kaylee Knowlton was named the Newcomer of the Year, while Mackenzie Robinson of Elysian Fields was the Pitcher of the Year recipient. Elysian Fields skipper Lexi Commander was named the Coach of the Year.
Joaquin had a league-high 14 players named to the Academic All-District 20-2A team. Players included: Chasity Baker, Alyssa Belrose, Amy Grafton, Ashlyn Harvey, Bailee McSwain, Elizabeth Patrick, Ava Stephens, Anna Taylor, Whitney Vaughn, Jordan Welch, Taylor Wilkerson, Tristan Wilkerson, Olivia Worsham and Ryleigh Yates.
