Jim Goldman has brought solidity to the Carthage High School baseball program, winning the Class 3A title in 2009 and a district winning percentage of .921 since his arrival three years ago.

For the second summer in a row he is offering a pair of camps to help to pass on knowledge and training when he offers skills and pitching camps next month.

Goldman, who has an overall record of 75-23-2 (.750) and a league mark of 35-3 over the past three seasons at Carthage, has announced that the Carthage Baseball Skills Camp will take place on Monday-Tuesday, July 18-19, and the Pitching Camp will be held on July 20. Both camps will be held at Jim Reeves Memorial Field.

Goldman stated that the skills camp will be broken up into two different groups, with ages 7-12 working from 8:30-11:30 a.m. on both days and 12-year olds through incoming freshmen participating from 5:30-8:30 p.m. each day.

"We included the age of 12 on both camps because it will depend on the skill level of the individual as to which session he or she may participate in," Goldman stated. This is a great came for kids to improve their skills and improve their game.

"Last year we had 40 camps at the skills camp and addition 20 at the pitching camp and we're looking for that number to grow this year."

Goldman said instructors at the camp will include himself and other Carthage High School coaches, along with ex-Carthage Bulldog athletes.

The pitching camp will take place from 9-11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, July 20, at Reeves Field and is for individuals that are entering the sixth through the ninth grades.

The cost of the skills camp is $50 per individual, which will include a t-shirt and other items. For an additional $15 individuals can participate in both camps.

For those wishing just to participate in the pitching camp the cost is $25.

In case of rain, the camps will held back a day.

Goldman said individuals can pick up registration forms at the Carthage High School athletic field house, the High School central office, at the KGAS radio station and at the Panola Watchman.
