SB: Tilbury named Lady Dog offensive MVP

CARTHAGE, Tx -- A playoff trip in 2011 was just one of the highlights for the Carthage Lady Bulldog softball team as the team's athletes were honored recently at the 2010-11 Carthage High School Female Athletic Banquet held in the high school commons.

Senior Chelsea Tilbury was named the Lady Dawg Offensive Most Valuable Player. She was also a First-Team All-District 16-3A Infielder and a member of the all-district academic squad.

Kendall Hightower was named to the Lady Dawg Defensive MVP Award. The senior was a First-Team All-District 16-3A outfielder, was a Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) All-Academic All-State performer, as well as a member of the all-district all-academic team.

The Lady Dawg Awesome Attitude Award went to three members of the 2011 team that posted an overall mark of 14-13. Senior Casey McLemore was named to the award, along with sophomores Katelyn Pope and Shelby Soape.

Pope was an all-district outfield honorable mention and a member of the all-district all-academic squad. Soape was also a member of the All-District 16-3A All-Academic squad.

The Lady Dawg Hustle Award went to senior Kara Barr. She was a first-team all-district outfielder, a member of the TGCA Academic All-State team and the all-district all-academic squad.

The Most Improved Award went to freshman Morgan Wedgeworth. She was a second-team all-district catcher and a member of the 16-3A All-Academic All-District team.

Freshman Brooklyn Peace received the Lady Dawg Newcomer of the Year Award. She was a Second-Team All-District 16-3A Infielder and was named to the all-district all-academic squad.

Other members of the squad recognized for league honors included: senior Tori Jo White (All-District 16-3A Defensive MVP); senior Payton Peace (all-district second-team outfield, TGCA All Academic All-State, all-district all-academic team); senior Jessica Pride (all-district first-team pitcher, all-academic all-state and all-academic all-district); junior Sheila Williams (honorable mention all-district infielder, academic all-district); junior Sarah Clakley (honorable mention all-district infielder, academic all-district); and junior Meagan Davis (honorable mention all-district infielder).
