The Center Roughriders advanced to the Class 4A boys soccer playoffs for the second consecutive year in 2011, marking the first time for the program to accomplish that fete in the team's history. Led by the scoring of junior Eduardo Chavez, CHS posted a season record of 5-11-1 on the year (3-6-1 in district). Chavez was honored recently when he was named the District 35-4A Offensive Most Valuable Player in the league, as voted on by the coaches.
Daniel Forry, a junior from Jacksonville, was named the District Most Valuable Player, while Palestine junior Fabio Chaves was honored as the Defensive MVP.
The league's Sophomore of the Year went to Mustafa Ziedan of Jacksonville and the Newcomer of the Year was awarded to Enrique Acevedo of Nacogdoches.
Jacksonville head coach Randy Hammantree was selected as the Coach of the Year.
Jacksonville won the boys District 35-4A championship and then received a first-round bye in the playoffs. The Indians then beat Killeen, 3-0, in Area play, before losing 3-1 to Waco University. Nacogdoches placed second in the boys league standings, receiving a first-round bye and then fell to Waco Midway, 1-0, in Area action.
Palestine was the third-place team. After getting a bye in the first round, Palestine lost to Waco University in the Area round, 3-1. Center also received a first-round bye, then fell to Waco University, 7-1, in the second round of action.
Other Center Roughriders named to the first-team all-district squad included freshman Jesus Luna and freshman Jose Espino.
Second-team members from the Roughrider squad included senior Troy Bradford and sophomore Felipe Parra.
GIRLS ALL-DISTRICT 35-4A
The Nacogdoches Lady Dragons won the District 35-4A girls' race this past season. NHS had a bye in the opening round of play before losing to Lorena in Area play, 1-0.
Jacksonville was the second-place team. The Lady Indians took a first-round bye and then dropped a 6-0 decision to Waco Midway in the second round.
Palestine finished third in the chase and picked up an Area playoff win over Killeen, 3-0. PHS then lost to Lorena, 2-1, in the Sectional round of the postseason. Hudson came in fourth in the district. After a first-round bye, the Lady Hornets dropped a decision to Waco University, 2-0, in Area play.
Center only had one player received all-district honors. Maria Medrano, a junior, was named to the first team.
The Lady Riders struggled to a 2-14 season mark, posting an 0-9-1 record in district.
