GOLF: Lady Dawgs 7th after first round at State

Boone shoots first-round 78 for ninth in Medalist competition

The Carthage Lady Bulldog golf team enters the final round of the Class 3A State Golf Tournament today in seventh place after shooting a 364 Thursday in the opening round of the two-day tournament at the Roy Kizer Golf Course in Austin.

Lady Bulldog Olivia Boone shot a 78 during the first round, which puts her in ninth place overall, seven strokes behind Traylor O'Rear, who shot a 71 during Thursday's play.

Brenna Moore of Burkburnett is in second place in the medalist competition with a 73, just two strokes off the leader. Rebbekah Lambert of Andrews shot a 74 on Thursday, while Kari Rosser of Hudson, Sarah Moore of Burkburnett and Sara Black of Andrews all shot at 75, which puts them in a tie for fourth.

Other individual scorers for the Lady Dawgs include Courtlynd Miller with an 85 (21st), Anneth Garcia with a 98 (40th), Lauren Addington with a 103 (45th) and Kailyn Rogers with a 110 (47th).

Andrews leads the team competition by 16 strokes, shooting a first-round 312. Burkburnett is in second place with a 328, Lampasas is a close third with a 329 and Prosper shot a 350 and is in fourth place.

Yoakum is in fifth place after the first round, shooting a 257, Gatesville shot a 358 and Hudson is in eighth place, scoring a 381 on Thursday.
