BASK: Walker-Holmes to host hoops camp

Tenaha varsity girls' basketball coach Laura Walker-Holmes has just completed her second season as head coach of the Lady Tigers, leading her team to district titles in both years at the helm. Holmes has announced that she will be hosting a youth basketball camp early next month.
The camp, which will be held in the Tenaha Special Events Center, is for first through third grade boys and girls and will run from Monday, June 6, through Thursday, June 9. The camp will take place from 9 a.m. until 12-noon each day.
Walker-Holmes is not new to basketball camps. She works with the annual camp at Tarleton State University and also hosted camps when she coached at Corsicana. This will be her 16th year to work a summer basketball camp.
"This camp is not just for young boys and girls in Tenaha, but throughout East Texas," Holmes explained. "I want to give these youngsters an opportunity to learn and begin understanding the fundamentals of basketball at a young age so they can help their programs earlier as they get older."
The cost of the camp will be $25 per camper. This price includes a t-shirt, shorts and a lunch each day.
The Tenaha coach said participants will work on basic basketball skills, such as dribbling, passing, shooting, sportsmanship and teamwork.
Assisting Walker-Holmes at the camp will be Tenaha assistant coach Kendra McAlister, along with other volunteers.
Anyone interested in their child participating in the camp is urged to sign up early so shorts and t-shirts will be available the week of the camp. If a camper signs up just prior to the camp, they will still receive the attire, but it will arrive later.
"I want to urge everyone to sign up early so they can get their t-shirt and shorts for the camp and wear them that week," she stated. "It'll be a great time of fun and learning and getting to know other youth in the East Texas area."
