Ten area athletes will be in Austin this weekend to represent four schools at the University Interscholastic League (UIL) State Track & Field Championships, which will be run at Mike A. Myers Stadium, located on the University of Texas campus.
The competition will take place on Friday and Saturday. Four of the athletes will represent Garrison High School, while four are from Timpson and one each from Tenaha and Shelbyville. All will compete in the Class 1A level of competition.
There will be nine competitors in each event this year. In the past eight have qualified for State, with two coming from each region. This year a 'wildcard' has been added, which is the best time or distance in the event other than the top two qualifiers from each region.
