Joaquin JH 'A' outlasts Tenaha, 16-6

Robles scores pair of TDs for Rams

Joaquin 8th grader Armondo Hernandez Robles scored two touchdowns Thursday night as the Ram junior high 'A' team outlasted Tenaha 16-6 in a game played at The Pit in Tenaha.

 

The victory improves the Rams to 2-0 in District 19-1A play. Joaquin will next travel to Beckville next Thursday. Seventh grade action will begin at 5 p.m. Tenaha dropped to 2-2, 1-1 in district. The Tigers will next host Timpson on Thursday.

 

Joaquin, which had several players out sick this past week, were able to score touchdowns when Robles hit paydirt on a run and then caught a 50-yard scoring toss from quarterback Lance Lawson. The Rams converted both 2-point conversions.

 

After trailing 8-0 at intermission, Tenaha score came when quarterback Keontas Davis bounced into the endzone from six yards out. The big play on the scoring drive came from a long run by Demarkus Perry.
 

Other outstanding efforts by the Rams included two interceptions by free safety Gage Belrose. Other defenders who stood out included Cam Labright, Angel Hernandez, Tyler Griffin, Lawson, Keith Ferguson, Sean Rodgers and Robles.
