Area track and field athletes gave it their best shot to make it to the State Track & Field Meet in Austin this past week as they competed in their respective Regional Track Meets.
The Carthage Lady Dawgs placed ninth in the Class 3A Region II competition, scoring just over 25 points. Texarkana Liberty-Eylau won the regional team title with 69 points, followed by Lucas Lovejoy with 64.125, Longview Spring Hill scored 48.125 points to place third, Carrollton Ranchview came in fourth with 44 points and Argyle was fifth with 38.125 points.
Carthage Bulldogs scored one point and placed 29th among 33 schools that scored in the region. Celina was first with 114 points, while Argyle was second with 70, Atlanta placed third with 67, Texarkana Liberty-Eylau was fourth with 65 and Dallas Madison rounded out the top five with 60.11 points.
The Beckville Bearcats scored four points at the Class 1A Region III Meet in Palestine, while the Ladycats did not score, but had several participants.
No area competitors were able to finish in the top two spots to advance to the State Track Meet in Austin this weekend.
Carthage Girls Results
The Lady Dawgs' 4x100-meter relay posted a fourth-place finish. The foursome of Chasity Traylor, Iesha Bryant, Kabresha Pipkin and Tiera Simpson ran the event in 49.36. Liberty-Eylau took top honors with a time of 48.05, with Spring Hill coming in second with a 48.32 and Atlanta placing third with a time of 49.35.
The Carthage 4x200-meter relay was also fourth, with a time of 1:44.54. Making up the CHS relay was Chasity Traylor, Kabresha Pipkin, Iesha Bryant and Tiera Simpson. Liberty-Eylau captured top honors with a 1:42.06, with Dallas Madison running second at 1:44.13 and Prosper coming in third with a 1:44.24.
Carthage's 4x400-meter relay foursome of Chasity Traylor, Jasmine Robinson, Jackie Jackson and Tiera Simpson placed sixth, posting a time of 4:09.87. Argyle won the event with a 3:57.60, with Lucas Lovejoy coming in second with a 3:58.83, Anna placing third with a 4:03.48 and Emory Rains taking fourth with a 4:05.81.
Carthage's Iesha Bryant placed sixth in the 200-meters, posting a time of 26.35. Alayah Davis of Spring Hill won the race in 24.57, with Shanetria Thomas of Liberty-Eylau coming in second at 24.84 and Jade Lewis of Prosper finishing third with a 25.03.
Iesha Bryant of Carthage placed fourth in the high jump, clearing 5-2. Courtney Davis of Whitesboro and Kara Erickson of North Lamar tied for top honors as they both cleared 5-6, with Kaylyn Schultz of Celina coming in third with a 5-5.
Lady Bulldog Tiera Simpson took sixth place in the triple jump with a length of 36-4. Imani Wright of Liberty Eylau was first with a 38-4.75, while Michaela Williams from Ranchview placing second with a 37-08 and Deja Snell of Frisco Lone Star coming in third with a 37-05.
Annette Spann cleared 9-6 to come in fourth in the pole vault. Jessie Johnson of Argyle was first with a height of 12-0, with Lindsey Sechrist of Spring Hill placing second at 10-3. Beth Cobb of Celina taking third with a 10-3, as well.
Carthage Boys Results
Carthage Bulldog Jared Twomey placed sixth in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles, finishing in 40.43. Jamorrison Jones of Dallas Madison took top honors with a 38.05 and Cody Rhodes of Celina was second with a 38.52 and Mark Jackson of Anna placed third with a 38.57.
Jalen Claiborne of Carthage placed eighth in the long jump, with a leap of 20-8.75. Jurase Brown of Commerce placed first with a 23-02 and Jarrion Lawson of Liberty-Eylau took second with a 22-10.
The 'Dawgs' Lovie Hall placed 18th in the discus, with a distance of 102-11. Keawon Pickens of Dallas Madison placed first with a 158-06 and Nathan Griffin of Spring Hill was second with a 154.03.
Beckville Track
In boys' competition at the Class 1A Region III Track Meet in Palestine, Beckville's Demontre Allison came in 12th in the long jump with a distance of 18-7.5. Lavadrick Singletary of Alto captured top honors with a 21-0, while Trinidad's Darius Boggas was second with a 20-11.
The Bearcats' Carlos Taylor came in fourth it the shot put with a throw of 47-11.75. Austin Cook of Overton won the event with a toss of 52-5.75, Trey McGowan of Kerens was second with a 49-11.75 and Michael Goodwin of Collinsville was third at 49-6.
In Class 1A Region III girls' competition, Garrison's Jennifer Walker came in second in the high jump and will be in Austin competing for the state's best. She leaped 5-1 at the Region III Meet. Natalie Alexander of Malakoff won the event with a 5-3. Beckville's Taylor Lindsay tied for seventh in the event, clearing a height of 4-7. Lindsay's teammate, Ivy Rieke, also tied for seventh with a 4-7.
Garrison's Kelsey Bass placed second in the pole Vault, clearing 8-5 and earning the right to compete in Austin at the State meet. Beckville's Devin Woodall also competed at the Region III Meet, as did Garrison's Bridgett Bass.
