Area schools to honor athletes at banquets

Area high schools will be honoring their athletes for their hard work and determination this month as they host their annual athletic banquets.
Here is a rundown of area fetes:
Beckville High School
The Beckville High School athletic banquet is scheduled for Monday, May 16, and will be held on the high school cafeteria. It is set to begin at 6 p.m. Athletes for the entire 2010-11 school year will be honored.
Carthage High School Girls
Carthage ISD Athletic Director Scott Surratt has announced that the Carthage High School girls' athletic banquet is going to be held on Monday, May 23, at 6 p.m. It will take place in the high school commons area.
Center High School
The Center High School athletic banquet has been scheduled for Monday, May 9, according to CISD Athletic Director Kevin Goodwin. The annual event will take place in the high school cafetorium and begin at 6 p.m.
Tickets for the event are $5 for adults. Children under the age of 10 will be admitted free. All Center High School athletes will, of course, be admitted free of charge.
"This is a great opportunity for the community members and fans to come out and show your support and appreciation to these student-athletes," Goodwin stated. "These athletes have given their personal time and efforts to make Center athletics what it is today and they deserve your praise and appreciation."
Garrison High School
Garrison High School athletes will be honored on Tuesday, May 24, at the GISD Middle School gymnasium at their annual athletic banquet. The event is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
Gary High School
The Gary High School athletic banquet is will kick off those in the area tonight (Thursday) when they recognize their athletes, beginning at 6 p.m. The event will take place in the school's cafeteria.
Joaquin High School
The Joaquin ISD will honored its high school athletes in their traditional way at the annual awards banquet and dinner. The fete will begin at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria with a dinner. The audience will then move to the gymnasium for the awards ceremony, which will start at approximately 7 p.m.
Shelbyville High School
Plans have been made to honor Shelbyville High School athletes on Monday, May 9, at the 2010-11 Shelbyville High School Athletic Banquet. The event will be held in the high school cafetorium and begin at 6 p.m.
A chicken spaghetti dinner, with salad, garlic bread and cake will be available for $10 per plate. Meal tickets can be purchased at the school. To buy one call 598-7323. Meal tickets will also be sold at the door.
Tenaha High School
The annual Tenaha High School athletic banquet will be held on Tuesday, May 10, at the high school cafetorium at 6 p.m. to honor athletes from throughout the school year.
Timpson High School
Timpson athletes will be honored from the 2010-11 school year on Tuesday, May 17, when the district holds the annual event at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center. It will begin at 6 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Timpson Athletic Booster Club.
Tickets may be purchased from the high school office or Beverly Tippett in the high school at a cost of $10. The deadline for purchasing tickets is Friday, May 13.
