CENTER -- The Center 7th grade 'B' team received a pair of touchdown runs by Darrell Barnes Thursday night and that was enough to knock off Bullard, 14-0, in middle school football action here at Roughrider Stadium.
The Roughriders moved out to an 8-0 lead with 1:11 gone in the second quarter when Barnes sprinted around left end and down the sideline for a 46-yard scoring jaunt. Jose Paredes added the two-point conversion and the 'Riders took the lead for good.
Barnes also added an insurance touchdown just over two minutes later. After Center had stopped the Panthers on down, he took the snap on a broken play from scrimmage and scrambled around right end and found daylight down the sideline. Barnes didn't stop running until he had scored from 32-yard out with just over 2:30 left in the half. The 'Riders' try for the 2-point conversion failed, but with the Center defense playing 'lights out' football, CMS had enough points to win.
Center will return to action next Thursday night when the 7th and 8th grade teams travel to Carthage to face the Bulldogs. The 7th 'B' will get things started at 5 p.m., followed by the 7th 'A', 8th 'B' and 8th 'A'.
