After leading a team made up of no seniors all the way to the Class 1A Division I State Championship final in 2010-11, it was no surprised when two Tenaha players led the All-District 22-1A D-I selections, which were released by the league recently.

Tenaha junior guard Reginald Davis was selected as the district's Most Valuable Player award, while his teammate, junior guard Octavius Griffith, was selected as the Co-Offensive Most Valuable Player, along with Gary junior Luke Thornton.

The league's Defensive Most Valuable Player went to Gary junior Conner Coligan, while Newcomer of the Year honors went to Beckville senior Carlos Taylor.

Tenaha Head Coach Todd Bodden was named the Coach of the Year.

It's been an eventful year for Davis, who has also announced this spring that he's going to signing with Texas Tech University next year to play football. Davis, who quarterbacked the Tiger football team to a district title and is competing at the Class 1A Region IV Track & Field Meet next week in San Antonio, was one of the keys to the Tiger basketball team advancing to the Class 1A Div. 1 State Tournament.

Davis helped the Tigers to a 28-10 season mark and a berth into the finals, where they fell to Clyde Eula, 64-49. He was named to the all-tournament team at State and also to the Class 1A D-I All-State team. Tenaha 'ran the table' in the district race this season, posting a spotless 10-0 mark.

Griffith also had a stellar year for the Tigers, with his biggest came coming in the Tigers' semifinal win over Clarendon. Griffith hit 11-of-16 field goals in the opening game of the Final Four game for a team-high 28 points in a 72-59 victory.

Gary finished second in the district race, posting a 7-3 record during loop play. The Bobcats finished the season 16-12, falling to Overton in bi-district action. Shelbyville was a close third in the district as the Dragons posted a 6-4 mark. SHS defeated Carlisle, 49-46, in bi-district action and then fell to West Sabine, 72-33, in Area play.

Beckville (11-10) was fourth in the league with a 5-5 record, while Timpson (5-22) tied Garrison for the fifth spot at 1-9.

First-Team All-District 22-1A players included Timpson junior Jaylin Rhodes, Tenaha juniors Shaquille Mitchell and DeAaron Roland. Shelbyville senior Tyler Adams and junior Brandon Gillaspie were selected to the top team, along with Gary seniors J.P. Woods and Johnnie Pass, as was sophomore Matt Wood.

Joining Key on the second team were Timpson seniors Johnny Allen and Rody Paige, Tenaha freshman Jacobi Ivy, Beckville senior Jarod Woodall and junior Rain Rieke, Gary senior Mitchell Taylor and Shelbyville senior Jesten Brown.

Honorable Mention athletes from Gary included junior Levi Cohorst and sophomore Stephen White. Shelbyville's Zach Ferrebee, Ryon Vaughn and Jeffery Cagle were selected, as was Tenaha freshmen Chavis Gregory and Keontas Davis, along with junior Demon Horton. Timpson seniors Devante Washington and Ray Neuwirth, along with sophomore Lorenzo Young also received honorable mention.
