The Shelbyville Lady Dragon 4x100-meter relay foursome has posted some of the best times in the state this season. That group was just one of the dominant efforts Shelbyville used as all three relays advanced to the Class 1A Region IV Regional Meet to lead SHS to a third-place finish at Area last week in Zavalla.

The Lady Dragons finished with 74 points in the girls' division of the Class 1A Region III District 25-26 Area Track & Field Meet, just being nosed out for second place by West Sabine, which posted 76 points. Zavalla captured top honors as the Lady Eagles ran away from the competition with 135.5 points.

Tenaha has two relays advancing to the Region IV Meet at Judson High School in San Antonio on May 2-3 as the Lady Tigers scored 40 points to place fourth overall at Area. Hull-Daisetta tied Tenaha for the fourth spot, while Chester placed sixth.

The top four finishers in each competition will advance to the Class 1A Region IV Meet.

The Lady Dragon 4x100-meter relay, which is made up of Shameria Lathan, Tameria Lathan, Tiamara McKinney and Kadeshia Turner, posted the top time of 52.55 at the Area meet. Tenaha's foursome of Okievia Bratchett, Tiara Williams, Courtney Edwards and Tia Thomas ran a very closer second as its time of 52.57 was just 0.02 slower than the Lady Dragons.

West Sabine placed third in the event with a 53.48 and Hull-Daisetta was fourth with a 53.93.

Shelbyville's 4x200-meter relay of Kadeshia Turner, Kiera Montgomery, Shameria Lathan and Tiamara McKinney blew past the competition to take first place, posting a time of 1:48.78. Zavalla's group was second with a 1:52.27, while Tenaha's team of Okievia Bratchett, Courtney Edwards, Tiara Williams and Tia Thomas finished a close third with a time of 1:53.24. West Sabine was fourth with a 1:55.99.

The Lady Dragon 4x400-meter relay will also advance after finishing fourth last week. Kiera Montgomery, Kadeshia Turner, Omunique Brooks and Camory Bolton combined for a time of 4:34.40. Zavalla won the event with a time of 4:23.58, with Hull-Daisetta second with a 4:28.02 and West Sabine third with a time of 4:33.99.

Tenaha's Courtney Edwards ran second in the 100-meter competition, finishing in 12.88. Ashley Smith of Hull-Daisetta took top honors with a 12.70. Third place went to Tyra Adair of Chester, with Shelbyville's Tameria Lathan coming in fourth with a 13.01.

Shelbyville's Bolton finished third in the 400-meters with a time of 1:06.55. Rachel Ferguson of West Sabine was first with a 1:03.37, while Martinsville's Gabby Spencer ran second with a 1:05.33. Martinsville's Alanea Hooper came in sixth in the event with a 1:19.00.

Lady Dragon Shameria Lathan captured the 200-meters race. She was clocked with a time of 26.32. Tyra Adair of Chester was second with a 26.86 and West Sabine's Joslyn Williams came in third with a 26.95.

Kiera Montgomery of Shelbyville will advance to the Regional meet in the high jump, after clearing 4-8 and placing fourth. Kori Soinget of Evadale captured top honors easily with a leap of 5-6, while Heather Pilgreen of West Hardin was second with a 4-10 and Khadijah Carter of Goodrich also cleared 4-8, but placed third.

Martinsville's Gabby Spencer claimed third in the long jump with a 15-4.50. Kelcee Mitchell of Leggett won the event with a 16-0 and Shelby Lee of Zavalla was second with a 15-6.25.

Chireno's Justice Lockett placed second in the shot put with a throw of 34-7. Caitlyn Lambert of Zavalla captured top honors with a throw of 35-3.5.

Spencer came in third in the triple jump with a 32-9.5 and Tenaha's Bratchett earned a regional berth with a 31-10.5. Khadijah Carter of Goodrich placed first with a 34-10.

Other results from local athletes at the meet included:

Shelbyville's Chelsie Edwards finished sixth in the 3200-meters, with a time of 14:10. Rachel Ferguson of West Sabine took first with a 13:38, Kyrstin Jobe of Chester placed second with a 13:47 and Abigail Broussard of Sabine Pass ran third with a 13:49.

Lovie Brown of Shelbyville placed sixth in the 800-meters with a time of 2:59.87. Sara Dugat of Zavalla won the event with a 2:34.46, Morgan Hollins of Apple Springs placed second with a 2:37.78 and Victoria Waters of West Hardin came in third with a 2:43.26.
