T&F: Lady Riders place fourth at 18-3A Meet

DIBOLL -- The Center Lady Riders finished first in a pair of events, while the Lady Rider 4x100-meter relay came in second to lead CHS competitors as the squad finished fourth overall in the girls' division last Wednesday at the District 18-3A Track & Field Meet held here at Lumberjack Stadium.

Center will be represented in five events at the Class 3A Region III Track & Field Meet scheduled for May 2-3 at Turner Stadium in Humble. The top three finishers in each event at district qualify for the regional meet.

Diboll won the overall girls' team competition, scoring 153 points. Hudson was a second with 137 points and Jasper posted 129 for third place. Center was a distant fourth with 64 points, clipping fifth-place Huntington, which accumulated with 63 points. Kirbyville managed 42 points for sixth and Central scored 14 points to take seventh.

A pair of Lady Riders qualified in the 100-meter dash at the 18-3A Meet. Jasmine Gibson won the event with a time of 12.88. Diboll's Nika Bray was second with a 13.003 and Center's Raven Greene placed third with a time of 13.414. Jasper's Jocelyn Land was fourth with a 13.681.

Center's Greene also qualified for the Region III meet in the 200-meters as she captured top honors. She ran the race in 27.559. Rachel Avant of Jasper placed second with a 28.434 and A. Henderson of Diboll was third with a time of 28.567. Fourth place in the event went to Chasity Burns of Diboll with a 29.067, while Center's Chakera Ingram ran a 29.301 for fifth.

The Lady Rider 4x100-meter relay foursome of Shya Stansberry, Raven Greene, Requanah Patton and Jasmine Gipson will be competing in Humble after posting the second-fastest time in the event. The CHS athletes ran a 51.485, which was second to Diboll's team, which finished in 51.052. Jasper claimed third with a 52.053, Kirbyville ran fourth with a 54.121 and Hudson placed fifth with a 54.989.

In the field events, Center's Jasmine Gipson qualified for the Region III meet with a second place finish in the long jump and a leap of 16.03. Petrina Bronson of Jasper won the event with a 16.04.50, with Lexus Hamilton of Diboll posting a 15.04.50 for the third spot. Julia Land of Jasper was fourth in the competition with a distance of 15.00 and Center's Ashley Sigler placed fifth with a 14.10.

In other competition involving Center female athletes, Sigler placed fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 30.05. Jocelyn Land of Jasper topped all competitors with a 33.05, Daejah Dennis was second with a 31.09 and T'Keyah Jones of Kirbyville placed third with a 31.01.

Cala Harless of CHS came in fifth in the 800-meter run. She posted a time of 2:38.845. Ana Acevedo of Hudson took top honors with a 2:30.103, with Karina Medina of Hudson placing second with a 2:30.770. Kendall Mitchell of Diboll was third with a 2:31.871 and Kim Parker of Central ran a 2:32.505, which put her fourth.

The Center 4x400-meter relay ran fifth as Celia Gonzales, Chakera Ingram, Cala Harless and Ashley Sigler posted a time of 4:40.783. Hudson claimed the top spot with a 4:23.266, with Diboll running second with a 2:23.799, Jasper coming in third with a 4:28.804 and Huntington claiming fourth with a time of 4:34.243.
