Five members of the Joaquin Lady Ram track team had outstanding performances last Tuesday and Wednesday and will be headed to the Class 2A Region III Track & Field Meet next month after leading JHS to a fourth-place finish at the District 20-2A Track Meet in Tatum.
The Class 2A Region III Meet will take place on May 2-3 at Whitehouse High School. The top three places at the district meet advance.
Olivia Worsham, Whitney Vaughn and Jordan Welch will all be competing in two events, while Michaila Duncan and Elisabeth Patrick will be part of the Lady Ram 4x400-meter relay team.
The JHS relay foursome of Duncan, Patrick, Welch and Vaughn placed third at the league meet with a time of 4:40. The alternate at the regional meet will be Worsham.
Worsham will be advancing in a pair of field events. She placed second in the triple jump, with a distance of 31-11.5. She also came in third in the pole vault with a height of 7-0, while jumping 14-7 in the long jump to come in sixth.
Welch tied for first in the high jump, with a leap of 4-8. Vaughn won the 800-meters, posting a time of 2:40 to earn another trip to regional.
In other field events for the Joaquin girls, Duncan placed fifth in the pole vault with a height of 6-0. Katelyn Cockrell posted a 29-6 in the triple jump for an eighth-place finish.
Other running events finishes include Worsham placing sixth in the 100-meter high hurdles with a time of 19.3, Duncan ran fifth in the 400-meters with a 1:06.6 and Worsham posted a time of 53.7 in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles and finished fourth.
Joaquin's 800-meter relay foursome of Lani Metcalf, Ava Stephens, Cockrell and Vaughn recorded a 2:01, which was good enough for fourth place at the district meet.
In the varsity boys' division, the Ram 4x100-meter foursome of Wyatt Hairgrove, Austin Bloodgood, Justin Wilson and Cody Runnels placed sixth with a time of 47.2.
The JHS 4x200-meter relay posted a time of 1:42, which was good enough for sixth place. The team was made up of Hairgrove, Bloodgood, Hayden Ferguson and Justin Wilson.
Joaquin's 4x400-meter relay foursome of Runnels, Bloodgood, Hairgrove and Wilson placed fifth with a time of 3:49.
Also, Runnels placed sixth in the high jump with a leap of 5-2. Hairgrove posted a fourth-place finish in the pole vault with a height of 10-0.
In the junior varsity boys division, Kyle Chambliss won the pole vault with an 8-0. Cody Causey placed sixth in the shot put with a distance of 34-1.
