T&F: Dragons run fourth, THS fifth at 25-1A Meet

ZAVALLA -- The Shelbyville Dragons advanced athletes to the Area Meet in eight events, while Tenaha will be represented in five as the two track squads finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the Boys' Division of the District 25-1A Track & Field Meet held Wednesday and Thursday here at Zavalla High School.
Evadale won the overall boys' title with 130 points, while West Hardin was second with 112 and West Sabine placed third with 103 points. Shelbyville posted 66 points for fourth and Tenaha and Zavalla tied for fifth with 50 points apiece.
Sabine Pass placed seventh, scoring 30 points, Broaddus scored 20 points for eighth and Colmesneil and Hull-Daisetta both scored 18 points to tie for ninth place.
The top four finishers in each event will advance to the Area Meet, set for this Thursday in Zavalla once again.
Running Relays
Tenaha's 4x100-meter relay ran second with a time of 44.49. The foursome was made up of Shaquille Mitchell, Cody Lampley, Jose Campos and Reginald Davis. West Sabine won the event with a 44.34.
Shelbyville's 4x200-meter relay foursome of Brandon Gillaspie, Christian Perez, Caleb Stracener and Jesten Brown advanced to Area with a third-place finish. They posted a time of 1:36.27. West Sabine took top honors in the event with a 1:34.55, with West Hardin coming in second.
The Dragons' 4x400-meter relay group placed fifth with a time of 3:59.68. West Hardin captured first with a 3:37.43 with Evadale coming in second.
Field Events
Tenaha's LaDarren Cooks placed second in the shot put with a toss of 39-7.25, while teammate DeAaron Roland placed fourth with a heave of 39-5.5. Adam Stark of Evadale won the event with a distance of 41-11.25.
Shelbyville's Brandon Gillespie placed third in the triple jump with a distance of 39-8.75. Jacob Conner of Evadale won the event with a 40-0.25.
Dragons Christian Perez and Jessie Rose placed second and third, respectively, in the pole vault. Perez had a height of a 11-0, while Rose surpassed 10-6.
Individual Running Events
Jeffrey Cagle of Shelbyville placed fourth in the 800-meters with a time of 2:13.27. Garrett Wright of Zavalla won the event in 2:10.24.
Jesten Brown of Shelbyville won the 100-meters in 11.02, with Tenaha's Reginald Davis placing second with an 11.20.
Cagle placed fourth in the 400-meters with a 55.96, with Evadale's Deven Murphy taking top honors with a 53.65.
Tenaha's Davis won the 200-meters in 23.14. Shelbyville's Brandon Gillaspie was second with a 23.18.
Jessie Rose of Shelbyville ran fifth in the 1600-meters, posting a time of 5:13.71. Garrett Wright of Zavalla won the race in 5:02.24.
