TEN: Center captured 18-3A tennis title

The Center High School tennis team captured yet another District 18-3A championship last Wednesday as 10 CHS athletes will represent the school in five separate divisions at the Class 3A Region III Championship held in Bryan on April 18-19.

The top two finishers in each division advance to the regional round of the playoffs. Center claimed top honors in the league meet in boys' and girls' singles and boys' and girls' doubles. The Riders also claimed a second-place finish in girls' doubles, while placing third in three events.

Center's Seth Grant won the boys' singles title, while teammate Kwayde Lucas placed third. Amber Noble claimed top honors in girls' singles, with Center's Chelsea Henderson finishing as a quarterfinalist.

The Center boys' doubles duo of Jacy Clark and Jesse Campbell captured the district championship with a victory, while the Riders' Wesley Howard and Mario Jimenez placed third.

In girls' doubles, Center's Caroline Chadwick and Emily Howard were league champions, followed by the Rider duo of Whitney Haddox and Darby Hudspeth, which placed second.

In the mixed doubles competition, Center's Ross Reynolds and Ashton Lucas qualified for the regional meet by placing second. The Rider duo of Wil McFarland and Julie Wilkins finished third.
