T&F: Garrison posts strong finish at Troup meet

With the District 20-1A Meet coming up this week in Beckville, the Garrison Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs used a final tune-up at the Troup Track Meet last Thursday to claim top honors in 10 events and to set personal bests in seven to shore up their skills.

The league meet, which will include schools from Alto, Beckville, Cushing, Gary, La Rue La Poynor, Longview Chadwick, Martins Mill, Mount Enterprise, New Summerfield, Overton, Carlisle, Timpson, along with Garrison, takes place Wednesday and Thursday in Beckville. The field events and running prelims will get underway on Wednesday, with the running finals getting started Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Here are Garrison's results from the Troup Track Meet:

Varsity Girls
Garrison's Lady Bulldogs recorded six first-place finishes, with four of those coming in the field events.

In the field events, Shelby Gresham won both the shot put and discus events. Jennifer Walker claimed top honors in the high jump and the triple jump. Jasia Berry placed second in the triple jump.

In the long jump, Shamika Nichols set a personal best at 16'2" to place second. Jasia Berry posted the fifth-best mark.

Kelsey Bass set a new personal record in the pole vault with a height of 9'6" to place second.

In the running events, the Lady Bulldog 4x100-meter relay foursome of Shamika Nichols, Jennifer Walker, Kelsey Bass and Jasia Berry placed third and ran its best time of the season.

Jasia Berry won the 100-meter hurdles event, with Kelsey Bass placing second and Jennifer Walker coming in third.

Garrison's 4x200-meter relay team of Shamika Nichols, Jennifer Walker, Brooke Davidson and Jami Matlock posted its best time of the year, claiming the third spot.

Jasia Berry won the 300-meter intermediate hurdles, with Kelsey Bass finishing third and Hannah Kimbrough coming in sixth in the event.

Megan Davidson ran second in the 3200-meter event and set a new personal record in the 1600-meter run to place first in a time of 6:11. Garrison's Bridgett Bass set a new personal best time of 6:34 and claimed the fourth place.

Jamee Lilley ran fourth in the 200-meters, with Jami Matlock next, claiming the fifth spot.

The Lady Bulldogs' 4x400-meter relay foursome of Shamika Nichols, Laci Stokes, Brooke Davidson and Jamee Lilley ran its best time of the year and placed second in the event.

Varsity Boys
Garrison Josh Williams won both the shot put and discus events. Quin Gates placed sixth in the shot and Josh Robison garnered fourth place in the discus.

Chris Feaster won the pole vault and placed fourth in the 110-meter high hurdles. Jesse Garcia was second in the pole vault.

Junior Varsity Boys
Jawaski Caraway won the triple jump event for the Garrison junior varsity boys, with Khiran Arrington placing fourth. Caraway took fourth in the long jump.

Clayton Barlow locked up the third spot in the pole vault, with Dustin Driscoll coming in next at fourth.

William Rogers posted a third-place finish in the high jump.

The Garrison 4x100-meter relay ran first. The foursome was made up of Khiran Arrington, Nathan Burkhalter, Markese Hall and Jawaski Caraway.

The Bulldogs' 4x200-meter relay team of Khiran Arrington, Nathan Burkhalter, Jake Christian and Jawaski Caraway captured top honors.

Cade Kendrick placed fourth in the 800-meters and second in the 1600-meters, while William Rogers placed fifth in the 400-meters.

William Rogers, Nathan Burkhalter, Jake Christian and Jawaski Caraway placed in the 4x400-meter relay.
