It was a disappointing finish to a successful powerlifting season for two area high school athletes at the Texas High School Powerlifting Association State Meet held Saturday in Corpus Christi.

Shelbyville's Kelsi Griffin and Center's Chakera Ingram both earned the trip, with Griffin competing against the state's best for the second straight year and Ingram making her first visit to lift at Corpus Christi.

Griffin was disqualified at the event. According to the THSPA website of State results, she posted a maximum weight of 355 in the squat and a 160-pound maximum in the bench press before disqualifying in the dead lift.

She entered the State meet ranked 27th overall in the 181-pound class. At the Region III meet in Forney she had a top weight of 240 in the squat, followed by a maximum of 140 pounds in the bench press.

Ingram squatted 285 pounds, bench pressed 120 pounds and dead lifted 375 pounds to place third at the Class 3A Region III competition held several weeks ago in Forney. She was in the 148-pound weight class and totaled 780 total pounds between the three events.

One of four Center athletes competing at the regional competition, Ingram set two personal records and a Region III mark, according to Coach Donna Shannon. Her weight of 375 in the deadlift was a personal best and a Region III mark as well. She also added a personal best in the squat.

But at the State meet, Ingram 'bombed-out', which is when a competitor fails in all three attempts of either of the lifts, thus failing to total.
