The Timpson Lady Bear junior varsity placed second at the West Rusk Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, while the THS varsity placed second in the Consolation bracket of the tourney.

Both teams were in Overton tonight (Tuesday) for matches with the Lady Mustangs. The Lady Bear varsity is missing three starters, who have the flu, while taking on the front-running Lady Mustangs.

The Lady Bear varsity opened play at the West Rusk Tournament on Thursday by falling in straight games to Leverett's Chapel and Waskom. Tori Fanguy and Macy Nix led Timpson in kills, while Danielle Brown and Shelby Bush tallied the most digs.

Timpson came back on Saturday and lost their opening match to Overton, 2-0, putting the THS in the Consolation side of the tourney bracket. The Lady Bears then won a three-game match with West Rusk, 25-22, 12-25, 26-24, putting Timpson in the Consolation championship.

In the title matchup, Nix led the Lady Bears in kills, Bush paced the squad in digs and Shelby Sanford and Tori Mosby did an excellent job with their serves, according to THS Head Coach Ashley Hartwell.

The Lady Bear junior varsity won its only match on Thursday at the tourney, 25-14, 25-17. On Saturday Timpson was matched with Gary in the opening match of the day, with THS coming out on top, 25-10, 25-16.

With the squad in the championship bracket, Timpson had to take on Class 2A Hawkins for the title. But Timpson couldn't overcome the larger school, falling in two games to place second overall.

"We played very hard both days of the tournament, but Saturday we came up against a very tough school for our size," commented Hartwell. "But the girls deserve a lot of credit for their effort."

MIDDLE SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL
