CENTER -- The Center Junior High cross country team continues to show promise on the young season. The Roughriders posted six finishers in the top 21 positions at Saturday's 2009 Rider Invitational Cross Country meet here at Roughrider Stadium Saturday to claim top honors in Junior High Boys Division of the 2009 Rider Invitational Cross Country Meet. The Center girls finished sixth.
Both Shelbyville junior high teams also fared well as the Lady Dragons placed third and the Dragons fifth in their respective divisions.
After placing fourth at the Nacogdoches recently, Garcia posted a time of 9:28.18 to win the race by some 27 seconds over San Augustine's Raymond Flores in the Junior High Boys Division. Coming in a close third was Center's Luis Garcia, with a time of 10:10.35. Pablo Gonzalez of Center was also in the top 10, coming in ninth with a time of 10:27.90. Shelbyville's Jessie Rose was the 11th place finisher with a 10:28.78.
Timpson's Justus Osby recorded a time of 11:36.06 to place second behind Jasper's Alex Richardson in the Junior High Girls Division. Osby was less than four seconds behind Richardson, who had an 11:32.34.
Shelbyville's Ali Baty ran 11th, while teammate Catashia Walker was right behind with a 12th-place finish.
