Center's Chakera Ingram - State Qualifier

Her nickname is 'Chucky', and to the other regional qualifiers at the Girls' Region III Powerlifting Meet in Forney last weekend, she was pretty scary. Center's Chakera Ingram set a new Region III record in her weight class and has qualified for the State Powerlifting Meet with a third-place finish on Saturday.

The Girls' State Powerlifting Meet is set for March 18 in Corpus Christi.

Ingram was one of four Center Lady Riders who participated in the Region III Meet Saturday in Forney. She was joined by Cala Harless, Kadijah Cooper and Jessica Williams as they represented Center High School well, according to CHS Head Coach Donna Shannon.

"I'm very proud of this team and the job they've done this season," Shannon said after the Regional meet. "They're the hardest working group I have coached. And what's so great about this team is there is so much young potential."

Ingram led the way, setting two personal records and a Region III mark as well as she totaled 780 total pounds in the squat, bench and deadlift competitionsin the 148-pound weight class.

Ingram posted a lift of 375 pounds in the deadlift, which was not only a personal best for her, but the Region III mark as well.

She also posted a personal best in the squat, lifting 285 pounds. Her best lift in the bench press was 120 pounds.

In other competition from Center Regional qualifiers, Jessica Williams brought home an eighth-place finish in her weight class by totaling 740 pounds and setting one personal record and tying another.

Williams lifted a personal-best 330 in the deadlift and tied a personal best with a 140-pound lift in the bench press competition. She posted a best of 270 in the squad competition.

Cala Harless finished ninth in the Class 3A Region III competition in her weight class with a total weight of 490 pounds. She squatted 170 pounds, bench pressed 90 pounds and deadlifted 230 pounds.

Lady Rider Kadijah Cooper struggled at the meet, according to Shannon. But the coach said she had a great season in qualifying for the Regional meet.
