Coming off a 4-0 blanking of Tatum in the first game of the history of the program, the Carthage Lady Bulldog soccer team posted a strong showing at the Palestine Tournament last week, posting a fifth-place showing.
Carthage opened the tourney on Thursday with a 2-0 blanking of Center as the Lady Dogs improved their season record to 2-0.
Macy Cherry scored the initial goal at the 13:52 mark of the first half when she took a pass from Kendi Hemphill and sliced the ball past the Lady Rider goalie.
After holding a 1-0 lead at the half, Hemphill scored an unassisted goal in the second half at the 26:41 mark.
Cherry finished the game with three shots on goal, with Hemphill, Danielle Zamazal and Yesi Melendez each posted one.
The Carthage defense was on its game as it didn't allow a shot on goal for the Lady Riders.
The Lady Dogs then came back on Friday and dropped a pair of games, falling to Athens, 1-0, and Palestine, 2-0.
Carthage then won the fifth-place game on Saturday, knocking off Hudson, 1-0.
The Lady Bulldogs improved to 3-2 on the season heading into play this week. CHS will host Hudson Tuesday night at 5:30 p.m. They will host the Longview junior varsity Friday at 6 p.m.
Center finished 0-3 at the tourney, dropping games to Athens, 4-0, and Palestine, 4-0, in addition to dropping a contest to Carthage.
The Lady Riders will return to action Tuesday when they host Tatum at 6 p.m. They will host Mount Pleasant Friday at 6 p.m.
