SB: Lady Rams lead 19-1A elite teams

After leading their team to yet another Class 1A State Playoff berth in 2010, the Joaquin Lady Rams were well represented on the All-District 19-1A softball teams recently as four members were selected to the first team and five more Lady Rams were honored on the second team.

The Timpson Lady Bears were also recognized with two second-team members. THS had five19-1A Honorable Mention selections, while Joaquin posted four.

League champion Beckville had the most players honored, with three Lady Cats earning superlative honors. Three players were named to the first team and two more on the second squad. Waskom had two of its players receive superlative honors, with three first-team selections and two more on the second team. Overton had two superlatives and two on the second team.

Waskom junior Lauren Parker was named the District 19-1A Most Valuable Player, while Beckville freshman Lolly Howard was named the Most Valuable Pitcher and teammate Shelbi Dodson (freshman) was named the Most Valuable Catcher.

Overton junior Molly Mackey was named the district MVP on offense, while Beckville junior Erica Graham was the Most Valuable Player on defense.

The Newcomer of the Year was freshman Kassie Honzell of Overton, while the Utility Player of the Year in the league was sophomore Katelyn Clark of Waskom.

Beckville Head Coach Tammy Hand and Waskom Head Coach John Edwards were selected as the Co-Coaches of the Year by their counterparts in the league.

Joaquin players selected to the All-District 19-1A First Team included junior Alyssa Belrose as a catcher, senior second baseman Amber Owens and sophomore shortstop Taylor Wilkerson on the infield, and senior centerfielder Peyton Rutherford as an outfielder.

Two members of the Timpson Lady Bears' squad were selected as second team players. Honored by the league was junior Tori Fanguy as an infielder and freshmen Dustee Tipton as an outfielder.

The Lady Rams, who finished the 2010 season with a 13-14 record, had five players on the All-District 19-1A Second Team. JHS players named included freshman pitcher Whitney Vaughn, freshman catcher Olivia Worsham, freshman infielder Ashlyn Harvey and junior infielder Jamie Raimond, along with sophomore outfielder Katelyn Cockrell.

Joaquin players receiving Honorable Mention included sophomore Meagan Cockrell, along with freshmen Jordan Welch, Bailed McSwain and Jordan Welch. Timpson players given Honorable Mention recognition were senior Danielle Brown, sophomore Caitlyn Smith, senior Tori Mosby, senior Amanda Haney and senior Shelby Green.
