T&F: County tracksters ready for Regionals

Shelby County will be well represented next week when athletes from each of the five county high schools participate in their respective Regional Track & Field Championships on Monday and Tuesday.
Class 3A Region III Meet
Center athletes will gather at Turner Stadium in Humble for the Class 3A and 5A Region III Track & Field Championships. Some of the Class 3A field event preliminaries will begin at 8:30 a.m. Monday with the pole vault, triple jump, discus and high jump events beginning simultaneously. Field events will continue through the final session which gets underway at 2:30 p.m.
Running preliminaries start at 12:30 p.m. with the 400-meter relays for Class 3A boys and girls. Running prelims will continue through 9:25 p.m. that evening.
The field event finals will get underway at 9 a.m. on Tuesday. Running finals will start at 1 p.m. and continue until 4:30 p.m.
The District 18-3A Champion Center boys will be represented in nine events, claiming five first-place and two second-place finishes at the league meet. J'von Jones won the high jump and the 100-meter dash, while Jacovian Johnson captured the 200-meter dash.
Center's 400-meter relay foursome of Jones, Ty Hubbard, Jeremy Small and Jacovian Johnson won the district 400-meter relay and the same four athletes won the 800-meter at the league meet and will be looking for a berth in the State meet in Austin.
The Center girls will be represented in seven events, capturing as high as second in three events at the league meet, in which the team placed fourth.
Class 2A Region III Meet
The Shelbyville Dragons and Lady Dragons will be at Whitehouse High School on Monday and Tuesday for the Class 2A Region III Track & Field Championships.
The field event finals and running preliminaries will be held on Monday, with the finals in the running events taking place on Tuesday.
The Shelbyville boys will be represented in two field events and three running events. Chris Thompson placed second in the shot put and Jeffery Cagle came in second in the 800-meter run.
Shelbyville's Lady Dragons will take part in the 400-meter relay along with four other events to the Regional meet. Tiamary McKinney leads the pack, she finished second in the 100-meter dash at the District 22-2A Meet.
Class 1A Region III Meet
Athletes from Timpson, Tenaha and Joaquin will converge on the recently renovated Wildcat Stadium for the Class 1A Region III Track & Field Championships Monday and Tuesday at Palestine High School.
The field event finals will start at 12 p.m., with the running event finals in the 3200-meter run getting started at 5 p.m. and the running preliminaries starting at 5:30 p.m.
There will be field event finals taking place on Tuesday as well, with the triple jump, high jump and discus taking place beginning at 9 a.m. The running finals will start at 230 p.m. and conclude at 4:45 p.m.
The Timpson Bears will have three relays, along with four other events represented at the meet, while the Lady Bears will take place in seven events, including a pair of relays.
Timpson male athletes who won their Area events included Cameron Courtney easily outdistancing the competition in the 800-meter and 1600-meter runs.
Lady Bear Jakelia Caraway won the 100- and 200-meter dash events at the Area meet as well.
